I though something looked different about that bass. When did Stuart change the neck heel from the traditional bulky heal to this more sculpted version? It must be a fairly recent change as some of the US Neck Through basses on Bass Centrals site have both versions.

I can already tell you that the action feels great. Not really any different than my NS-4. The neck IS thicker. I'm not sure if this has to do with the BEM finger board or what. But the neck on my NS-4 feels thinner. I'll measure them later to see.

The sound is so different. More 3-dimensional. The tone circuits aside, you have the deep sound of the P pups and the punchiness of the J... and it just sounds richer. Again, I think it's probably a combination of both the Tone Circuit and the pups. Not that the NS-4 is any slouch... but hit a note and the growl is unmistakably, instantly there.

The bodies feel the same. I definitely like the newer SPECTOR USA Bridge with the saddle height screws in the front.

The NS-4 has more headroom and tonal range. But I can say I like the NS-2's tone better.

They're both amazing guitars.

That's an optical illusion. I've held that black cherry NS-2... It's actually the very first BEM NS-2 since introducing the BEM option. I had that bass in my office for about two weeks (for BEM last October) and after for photos...

And it has the EXACT same neck to body contour that the Buckeye model below it has... as well as my NS-4 and my new NS-2.

It's an optical illusion due to where the light refection falls, that's all.

The oldest modern-day NS-2 I've held/seen was a 2005 model. And it had the same, gentle, less dramatic neck to body contour that the current models do.

The Euro models have the more pronounced ledge where the thickness of the body meets the neck... As do SSD, Kramer and Brooklyn models. I imagine the new gentler curve occurred with the relaunch of the SPECTOR brand back in 1998. Again, since I haven't held a "Woodstock" era model older than 2005 I can't say for sure.

Does anyone on this board have an NS-2/NS-4 from after 1998 to 2005 that has the more defined, more dramatic contour there?

Congratulations Patrick!! That is truly one of the most beautiful basses I have ever seen. Love that color and the inlays look just killer!

So the bird's eye board is optional, as well as the Black MOP inlays obviously, other than that, is it a "Stock" (seems funny to call an American Spector "Stock") NS-2?

You know, I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that the Czech basses ARE what the USA basses used to be, more or less. Rather than do what most US companies do when they produce overseas models, Spector upgraded their USA line to set it above the Euro line, rather than dumbing down the Euro line.

I'm sure there are still small difference (such as the TonePump), but overall, it seems the Euro basses are very much what the SSD era USA basses were, and the current USA basses are even better now. That's my take, anyway.

I totally agree... having seen SPECTORs from all of the different eras of production, from the original Brooklyn models, through Kramer and the SSD years to the current models.

I know...after unboxing my Ian Hill, 3 hours went by before I knew it and played it. It's sooo stunning and breath taking to hold such artful gorgeous beauty in your hands and KNOW...THIS IS MINE DUDE!!!!
