Oh what the heck. Give me a #. Among the basses I own or previously owned, the Spector is my favorite. Glorious tone especially with a good amp. I have Circle K strings on it at the moment, BGBDG tunes. I'm gonna try flatwounds on it next just to see how they sound.

I really will give it a chance. I've never seen/heard anyone slapping a Spector, so their preconception (to me) as a "rocker's bass, not a slapper's bass' may be undeserved. Personally, whenever I look at it there across the room (calling to me, whispering to me, telling me to stop working and come play me...), I see Eddie Jackson...

Whom, btw, I LOVE... But I don't emulate...

Hm, Alexis Sklarevski anyone? The Slap Bass Program was a rather popular video back in the day. He used a Spector if memory serves.

Dig, I do!

If I've confirmed anything about this lovely beast over the past two days, it's that these basses are really (for me) better for tapping & rocking than slapping. I still find the slap tone too spongy and broad for my personal taste (for funk, it's always gonna be the StingRay for me). But again, it's just my personal opinion. Also, I've noticed the same issue (not really a 'problem') that the fella above has: If I roll this volume up more than 75%, I overdrive everything I've plugged it into. These basses (at least, these US 9v preamps) are hotter'n a black vinyl seat on a ride home from the beach! Pickups are low (lower than EMGs normally have to be, anyway) and the battery is new. It's just HOT!

I will confess though, that now that I've given her a proper setup, this old girl plays like a dream and weighs about HALF of what the StingRays do. I can see playing this for three long sets twice a week with no residual shoulder stiffness.

I'm not sold on her yet (thanks for the PMs of interest. I'll keep you guys updated), but I'm not hatin' her either...

She's like that quiet girl at the bar who keeps catching your eye, even though she's really not your type. My "wife" is a busty blonde, and this girl is a skinny brunette. I an't leaving Pamela Anderson, but Natalie Portman keeps flirting with me...

I'd make that trade in a heartbeat, but maybe that's just me ;)

But Pam is such a dirty girl, and she knows just what I like. Yeah, she's bitchy sometimes, and lots of people think she's a one-trick pony, but that one trick she does REALLY well, and she looks SO good when she wraps around me. She doesn't even mind when I spend a little time with her sisters & cousins... And her voice is so...

...Am I taking this metaphor a little too far? It's Friday, and I'm in pre-JagerBomb mode...

Jagerbomz! :bassist: :D

I was reading the description of that kids video and said that Spector was his fathers. Imagine that? You have that monster bass in the house available to use? When my 12 year old daughter starts getting near my Spector, I start glaring at her and give her the "no horse play" look :)

Funny, sometimes my wife will walk into my office, walk over to my NS-4 and just pluck a string and look at me with a challenging expression. She tells me that if I ever really make her mad that bass is firewood. LOL. She's kidding of course.

But I know what you mean.

I think deep down, I hoped that was a Spector :) I figured other bass players use different gear but since the Streamers and Spectors look very similar, I was hoping he was banging that tune out on the Spector :bassist:

The two piece bridge is the best indicator. It's really hard to tell otherwise.

Likewise. I still remember the event and place. I've now had four over the years.

So you are going to help me out and do one of these right?

These are for SPECTOR and Stuart... I want him to see and hear his legacy. He works so hard building the world's best guitars that he sometimes has no idea how much his work is really loved and appreciated. This is why I started this project.

I'd love to include your story to the growing list... Abe Millett of Third Eye Blind is going to be added to this today.

:-)
