I use rounds on my fretless. I tried flats but they just were not my thing so I went back to rounds and have been that way ever since. Call me crazy but I love the sound of DR Hi-Beams and they don't destroy the fretboard as quickly as you would think.
Since they are going to be defretting the neck anyways, see if they can put a coat of epoxy on the fretboard and you won't have to worry about using rounds.

I got a few sets free at NAMM... I get the feeling that they are very expensive. I haven't looked yet. So don't hate on me if they are stupid expensive.
I had my NS-2A's neck sealed in several layers of boat epoxy... 7 hand-applied layers to be exact. Basically because I used to own a Steinberger fretless that had a damaged fingerboard because of rounds...
I tried ground-wounds and didn't like the sound. And I went to D'Addario Chrome flats... which were OK... not bad sounding but went dead pretty quickly.
I talked to the Dogal guys at NAMM, liked their strings. They gave me a single demo pack. Jimmy Eppard talked to them at a different time and they gave him a set, which he gave to me. So I got two sets. I put the first set on about 4 months ago and they're still like new. And the quality/sound of the string is wicked awesome.
I know they are probably expensive, but they are hands down the best flat wound string I've ever seen/heard.

Am I the only one that cringes when Limaguy says he is going to de-fret his Rebop? 
Man, that thing is so nice and played great when I tried it out but there is just something about removing the frets that gets me a little spooked.

I agree... I'd do one of the NS-2A's especially since I myself opted to do that to mine.
But Sam is a smart guy. And I figure he knows what he wants. So who am I to question.
Mainly because with two NS-2A's he's got an identical sound profile with the two. The ReBop has a different sound. So for variety I'd leave it fretted. Then he'd have a fretted NS-2A and a fretless NS-2A.
But honestly I look at the different pups and stuff to decide what I want and what I'm getting. I really don't want any two of my basses to sound the same. Each one I'd like to have a unique sonic profile. So in studio I have maximum tonal flexibility.

The Euro 4LX, Euro 4 and NS-2JAR I wouldnt think of messing with.
I was planning on the the Sunburst NS-2A.
But it plays so well I dont want to mess with that either.
So then I was going to do the White NS-2A but the ReBop has a Jazzy sound that I think would be great as a fretless.
Also, since that neck feels so good, maybe it will get my "butt" playing fretless more.
And if the neck did get ruined, I could always order a new neck since it is a bolt-on.
But this Luither has 25+ years expereince and I feel confident in him.....

I dont think I am going to alter the white NS-2A.
I have that as my tuned down Bass Eb-Ab-Db-Gb
when I play the 80's metal songs. Sounds great for Ozzy Songs
If I ever think of selling it. You have first dibbs.
