Who the hell is Gene Simmons?
LOL.....He's no bassist, he's a "Band Bitch"
OMG..Anyone that plays the bass lines to their own songs as a SOLO, just sucks..
The loser can't even sing..Sorry but that's my opinion..
WIMBISH anyday...............
I am usually the most un-confrontational person in the world
But with all due respect you just hit a big sore spot with the Gene bashing.
(5 String Rich, please dont take this as a personal attack towards you)

I am just responding with my opinion because I am sure many others on here feel the same way as you.
I would rather not even see any responses to this post but rather just hope to stop a Gene bashing spree which is almost sure to break out and maybe I can change the mind of just one Gene hater.
1st JPS asked which 5 basses played by a famous musician would stand out as the most "iconic" SPECTORs in history?
He didnt ask who is the best bass player.
2nd Wimbish is just in another league then 98% of any bass player period.
3rd Is Ian or Nikki really a better bassist then Gene?
4th Sting is a musical genius and incredibly creative bassist, but is he really that advanced as a bassist? (he would be the first to admit he isnt that great)
My biggest influences have been Mingus, Jaco, Sting and proud to say mostly Gene Simmons. (strange combo?)
(The following is not toot my horn but just to prove a point, because the bottom line is I am a nobody.)
I have formally studied both Jazz and Classical music. (I have a B.S degree in Music.)
Back in school, the professors and most of the students all laughed at any non-Jazz or Classical players.
So if you werent a Jazz Cat or a Classical composer
you s*cked.
But does it matter that someone knows all the substitutions of a G#13 chord and can improvise over it?
Or does it matter that someone sold millions of albums playing I-IV-V chords?
The bottom line is; playing music is a combination of knowledge, expression of feeling, creativity and execution. And only a handful of people are lucky enough to get just the right combination to make millions from doing it.
Genes bass lines from the early kiss albums and even from the latest Sonic Boom record are all very expressive and creative.
Rock & Roll all Night would be pretty boring with a bass line just playing the root of each chord.
My point is; Genes playing has plenty of creativity and execution. Is Gene as good as Doug Wimbish, hell no, hes not even close
If you think Gene s*cks and Kiss s*cks, ask yourself how many Kiss songs have you actually heard in your lifetime?
If it is less then 5, then you dont like Kiss, you just dont like their style
. It doesnt mean they or he s*cks.
I myself, dont like Yes, do they s*ck? No
I just dont like them.
P.S. We all know Gene is a money hungry a-hole of a person, but that also has nothing to do with playing bass.
Here is a Kiss song from the 1977 Love Gun album which I am pretty sure was recorded with a Spector SB-1 so its legal to post here.

This sounds like a pretty decent bassist
not a band b*tch playing.
Kiss almost human-YouTube
