Hey guys I was checking out the discontinued models on ssdbass.com and noticed the performer dlx5 bass . Looks way more rounded contoured edges and has a brass nut in the pic . More like a legend . Just wondering if it's the wrong picture for that model .

JPS ????

No that picture is correct. I took it myself. The owner had a custom brass nut installed. So that's the reason for that. The body was still flat. There was a little more roundness to the edges of the guitar, but it was definitely a Performer.

Anyone use a Hipshot bass extender with their Spector's? I have been kicking the idea around and there is another thread going on now about the subject but looking for Spector users opinions :smug:

Thanks,
Brian

I don't but I've seen dozens of SPECTOR artists who do. Carlton Armstrong (Ronnie Baker Brooks Band) has custom USA NS-5XL basses that he has Stuart make him (Humbucker at the bridge, J pup at the neck, USA 9v circuit and always a single crown inlay at the 12th fret) and he has Stuart install the hipshot on his B string so he can drop to A#.

Want to see the ultimate use of the hipshot extender, when mixed with a Steinberger bridge... sick. This video is sick I'm telling ya!

Has anyone upgraded their USA models w/ the new bridge yet? The one on Brownie is stock and is pretty rough so been thinking about switching it here recently. Anyone DIY'd it? My tech is pretty reasonable but still if it's something I can probably do, I will.

Hey Rockstar, I bought the new version for my '87, but it was slightly larger than the original. I took it to my guy and he told me he would grind down the bridge to make it fit instead of messing up the finish by widening the original recess. It came out great. Some of the guys here said you could dremel out ghe wood on your own. I would have royally screwed that up if I were to do that.

Manring is incredible. Not because of how technical he is, but because of how musical he is. This piece is one of my absolute favorites.

I know what you mean...guys that do stuff like taking a piece of gear or in this case an extender and doing things with them that are completely out of convention but totally musical really make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.

Below are some sample recordings of me playing a funky rock type riff.
Similar to a Lenny Kravitz style
Using Pro Tools samples, Addictive Drums plug-in, and me playing each of my Spectors for a sound comparison.

Basses are recorded direct into ProTools via M-Audio box no effects or compression.
