I just picked up my Spector Forte 4 today, and I'm completely in love with it.
I don't fall for just any bass. I've been on a mad search for a nicer, higher-end (for my budget) bass for about a month. I've torn through a Spector Euro 4, Fender American Special P-bass, Fender Mexican P-bass, Zon Legacy Import, and a MusicMan Reflex. I kept the Mexican P, because it had an amazingly woody sound and it played unexpectedly nice.
But the rest went back. None of them did it for me.
And then I played the Forte. Wow. The tone; the satin neck; the tone; the comfort... It had it all. Nicest bass I've played in a long time. I'm smitten, I say! Smitten!
Plus, and most importantly, it's number 011. Which means my bass goes to 11.
I have yet to name it, but I think this one will stick around for the long haul.

As a NS-95 SSD owner, and a former ReBop owner W/35" scale, I can tell you the fret spacing isn't as wide apart on the NS-95 as it is on the 35" scale bass. Thats the main difference I've noticed between the 2 scale lengths. I can't talk sonics because they had different pre's and pups. But I can tell you with definity that I do prefer the NS-95 over the ReBop 5 DLX. It's has a tone that's Saweeeet and the low neck action makes it a fast and smooth playing bass!!!
I need to go hang over his place again and bring my Euro 5LX to compare them. He was never really interested in a 5 string until I brought the Euro 5 over
I did play John's Euro5LX and was really impressed. But not long enough to give a honest comparison regarding a 35" scale.

It's all Evan Seinfeld's (Biohazard) fault.
He ordered a USA NS-2 in an amazing quilt and had it gloss transparent black finished like the Black Pearl is.
He was supposed to pick it up at the 2011 NAMM Show but at the last minute wasn't able to make it.
So this amazing NS-2 sat in its case the entire show.
The show ends and by that time I'd already fallen in love with Todd Cooke's amazing Amber Tube Quilt NS-2, with the birdseye maple fingerboard.
So we're breaking the displays down and checking basses and cases to make sure everything goes into the right case and is accounted for. And I open this case and there is the most AMAZING looking black NS-2. It had the traditional pau ferro board with abalone inlays... but that quilt with the black gloss stain was amazing looking.
So I held it up and was like, "REALLY?!?! Why wasn't this one displayed?"
He explained to me it was Evan's bass and not one for display or sale.
I got to thinking, because I'm sorry, but I'm not a huge amber fan... it's just a little too flashy for me... that what if you did a black tube quilt NS-2 with the birdseye maple fingerboard... then I started thinking about the inlays. I did some research and found black MOP being offered by some of the companies that import MOP and abalone for various stuff.
So I asked Stuart if he'd ever consider doing a BEM NS-2 with the black MOP inlays. He checked with his supplier of the MOP and abalone and told me he'd be willing to try it and see how it went.
The rest is SPECTOR history. They're working out the pricing but shortly the Black MOP will be an option for BEM fingerboards. I think an all-black NS-2 with an ebony fingerboard and black MOP would also look wicked.
Anyway, Stuart liked the look and effect and for me, because black MOP isn't really black, it's more a silver-grey color, it matches the black stain perfectly (because it's not black but a grey color as well).
So I told Evan just the other day that this bass was inspired by his bass... and Todd's.
And now you all know the rest of the story.

We were playing a show at a music production/business school about a month ago and the bassist from the band after us came to me to see if he could play through my rig(800rb that I just got rid off and a Genz 610 cab) and of course, I obliged since he was a cool guy. Turns out, he plays Spector too and after talking a bit he took his NS-2 out.. Wow! Looks amazing, plays amazing(even though the action was a tad high for my taste it still played like butter) and for the first time, I got to hear another spector through my rig in a gig setting. I was sitting about 30 feet away,
NS-2 -> TU-2 -> 800rb/GB 610 XB2...
The sound!! super defined and growly, cut through but supported the tune all the same, simply amazing. I was floored by how good it sounded.
Thanks everyone at Spector, this is one hell of an instrument.
