I think you guys are onto something with the tapered strings. I just took a pic of my Euro 5 that I am currently uploading and it looks like both my B and E string are tapered. I will post the picture once it is uploaded. Sorry, all i have is a cell phone pic but it shows what needs to be seen.

Time to order Spector strings I think.

Sorry, this is the best I could get with my camera phone but you can see that the B and E strings are tapered.

I'm thinking about ordering some myself. I think I am leaning towards a tapered B for sure!

pretty easy fix. Do it soon though before you fatigue the metal too much, you can see where the tension is starting to stretch the slot. that can stress the metal and cause cracks. Shouldn't take you more than 20-30 min being very careful. Get it done and run 135's if ya want lol :bassist:

Oh that's not tuned to pitch. I just stuck that in there and started tuning it up the stopped when I knew it wouldn't fit. I've always used tapers on mine since that's all that seems to fit. Haven't tried 125s though.

I know that this has been mentioned but needing tapered strings certainly will limit your choices and truly all it takes is a simple little unnoticable squeeze on the B string with some Vise-Grips and you're in business. Couldn't be easier, no damage and no problem. My .130 is a breeze. Try it before abandoning your favorite string...and no need to raise the bridge saddles.

With a .130 I like a tapered B. :)

DR will make custom tapered strings for you and they're about the same price as their standard sets. I've ordered several sets of varying diameters for my Warwicks over the years, both tapered and non-tapered... at one point I was using .140-.110-.95.-75.-50 and they'd make them tapered for me. I get mine form Greg at Rocket Music - shoot him a PM (username Rocketmusic) with any questions.

Just to add to the string conversation, I've put both DR and Dunlop non-tapered 130's on my Euro 5LX and Euro 6LX with no problem. A little snug to get through but it goes.

Incidentally I've found both recorded and live I prefer the Dunlop nickels to the DR Lo-Rider nickels.

I was a Dunlop fan myself, but their strings started dying way too fast on me!

I have noticed that, but they're cheap and I've just been rotating two sets while I clean one in the denatured alcohol.

I have a set of Spector strings to try but given the tapered string I believe I'd have to adjust the saddle height and I really don't want to mess with that as I like the way the bass is setup now.

I haven't tried the denatured alcohol deal.

I'm thinking of going with a set of SIT strings or GHS strings.

If you don't wanna use that Spector send, shoot me a pm! :D

Sorry, this is a delayed response.. been busy and too hard to make replies via my cellphone....

It's a very grainy picture... low resolution that's been enlarged digitally too far.
It does look like a refinish job though. I would never sandblast wood, you'll never get an even blast surface. 60-80 grit might make a bit porous but...
The blue stain of the body doesn't match the base of the neck quite right, either.
hard to tell if the curve is there or not from the 2 pics I see. looks like it is there but there again...:eyebrow:
