I haven't tried the denatured alcohol deal.

I'm thinking of going with a set of SIT strings or GHS strings.

If you don't wanna use that Spector send, shoot me a pm!

I just built a cleaning tube for DA (Denatured Alcohol) will try it this weekend, though.

To anyone who owns a Performer 4DLX -- are the EMG-SSD's normally very dry, thumpy-sounding pickups? I don't know if it's the strings or the pickups, but the sound, while nice on it's own, isn't meshing well with the music I'm playing/recording right now.
I don't know what brand the current strings are (I picked it up used) but normally I use Rotosound Swingbass..nice and bright and snappy. Will it make a difference or will I have to swap pickups?

To be honest.. When I assigned 244 to FeedMeFear ... I thought something was odd and that someone else was 244 and was missing (which I admitted to already

) but was actually just sitting down at my desktop to check when I read the post from MadBassPlaya.

Thanks guys, this is a really great bass. I have yet to plug it in yet (). I've been playing it all evening unplugged and the bass is very resonant! The neck feels great too. I was really pleased when it wasn't SUPER skinny like the Peavey I just sold. What can I say, I guess I love the fatties!

One things for certain. The D'Addarios have got to go! I used to enjoy playing D'Addarios especially the chromes but I started playing around with other sets and realized I really didn't care for them much anymore, but were using them because they were readily available.

Anyway, the bass is probably the most comfortable bass I've played as far as ergonomics. It just seems to "fit" me.

The bass is HEAVY at 11 lbs so I'm looking for a new padded/wide strap to play with.

Seriously though, looking down the neck of my Spector there is a slight bow in it. I've been told its good for the neck not to have it arrow straight. Any truth to that or when I get the new strings do I need to flatten it out?

In my experience, they're muddy and the output's too low.

You'll hear a difference...until the strings go dead.

I was considering buying an active pre-amp to put in mine, but then I found a deal on one of their NS2-As from the late 80's...

Not bowed side to side is ideal.
Slight forward bow (relief) is ok.
Slight backward bow (tension) will cause fret buzz.
