Hey JPS,

Can you order a custom Bolt on USA from Spector? I'm finding i'm not a neck thru guy and I would really like to get a GREEN USA bolt on Spector 5 like this...

Absolutely so long as its a wood that reacts well to colored stain. I can't say I ever remember seeing a burl-wood guitar stained in any particular color other than a natural finish.

But the quilt maple and possibly spalt, which I've seen dyed black, sure.

Best thing to do is ask PJ.

So after a little debating with myself, I have come to conclude that Mr. Spector has now spoiled me. I have not touched my Doug Wimbish Euro except twice since I have gotten my NS-4 and both times I put it away and went for my NS-4.

I am absolutely in love with my USA NS-4, and the more I play it and hear it, the more I realize it's time to put Dougie up for sale to jump start my next American purchase, a 5 or 6 string, maybe a Forte.

This is my Doug Wimbish Signature with the USA 9 volt "HAZLAB" preamp installed.

Question about that ReBop with the Euro bridge, how is the difference in tone from the original bridge?

To my ears, it was a little clearer, had a bit more depth, and a bit more sustain. Not drastic, but you can tell a difference

I'm not really sure I understand this question.
The ReBop comes with the Euro Bridge. Always has. It's a Europe Series Bass.

Are you asking if there's a tone difference between the brass/zinc gold Euro bridge and the black anodized aluminum Euro Bridge?

I find my EuroLX so amazing that it "scares" me to think that the USA model is that much better. Oh my.

Maybe a stupid question but is it more the "feel" or the "sound" or both that makes you keep reaching for the NS-4 over the Doug Euro?

It will be a bit before I do, but it will be a 5 string with the two soap bars.

It scares me too. Your question about whether it's the feel or the sound is like on The Simpsons when Bart asks Homer if he wears boxers or briefs, Homer looks in his pants and says "Nope".

Really, It's both. Don't get me wrong, that Euro Doug is an amazing bass, I really love it, I would put it in the top 3 instruments I have ever owned. As simple as I can put it, for a while I had a Fbass 6 string that played effortlessly, but it just sounded to "polite" for my tastes. That Euro Doug sounds awesome, plays pretty good, just not as good as my Fbass played (all in my opinion of coarse.).

I keep telling my wife my NS-4 plays better than the Fbass, the best playing bass I have ever had, and sounds better than my Doug, the best sounding bass I have ever had and is one instrument, really I feel the bass I have been waiting to find for a long time.

So yeah, I guess both. I play it and can't believe how it plays, then I am just blown away by the sound coming out of it.

I have a little SWR combo amp at home, and at school I play through a Roland keyboard amp, still sounds awesome. Part of why I am selling Doug is to start the march towards the next American, but I would like to get a really good amp for home to hear what my NS-4 can do through a good amp.

Was just re-listed at a great price.

It says it has some finish splits, if you can find out were they are this may be a great deal.

The tone is punchy with clear mids but still growls.
1.5 nut with a neck profile similar to a ReBop

If anyone has played a or owned a ReBop and loved the feel but didnt like the tone.. Then is is the bass for you.

I have nothing to do with this sale, I just own the same bass and love it.

...But at the same token, we're not talking about a $500 or even $5000 bass. We're talking retail costs of $5600+ Of course dealers give breaks and all of that. But when you're dropping that sort of cash for any musical instrument I don't think it's unreasonable to have some input into what you'd like it to look like...

Which goes back to my point of if you got that kinda time, money, and desire to be that picky, none of us here can help you.

I own a Euro 4LX and a US NS4. The Euro is a great bass no doubt. I picked up used, refinished it, put on black hardware and put in an EMG pre all for under $2k. Great value IMO.

However, my US has a growl my Euro can't match. The fit and finish is also a real step up. I'd compare the difference from say a Fender American STD to one of my Sadowskys.

On my way to Columbus, Ohio next week, I MUST find a SPECTOR dealer, call ahead to make sure that they have a USA in stock, and take the BIG step and play a USA SPECTOR bass! I've gotta see, feel and hear the difference!!!

I had a Euro 5LX and I own the Forte 4. A whole new world to me in feel.Even my wife picked it up, held it and said "Wow, it just feels amazing" (yes that's what she said...) Mind you that my US has the Aguilar pre, not the original Spector circuit, that's why I am after an NS-2.

Patrick: Yes, I was wondering if the difference in metals made a significant difference in the sound. I know, I'm opening a can of worms here because tonal differences can be very subjective. On the flip side, does someone like the gold (Euro) vs. black (ReBop) simply for appearance?

Maybe someone can give thoughts on this...

I have two used rebops. Both have the stock neck and headstock inlays. Both have been refinished, but one has a noticably slimmer neck than the other. One is more P-bass like, and the other more jazz like. D vs C shape. The D shape still isn't baseball bat like, but it is thicker than the other.

Anyone notice difference in Rebop neck profiles?
