Not to open a can of worms, but there is a secure, dedicated Dealer-Only website that the current unfinished available wood is on display. You'd need to sit down with your dealer and they could log in and show you what wood is available and let you pick it out. That goes for quilt maple, spalted maple, buckeye, any current available wood for wing construction.

Now that I didn't know. I will ask about it. I am in Vancouver, the dealer is in the US.... so I'd have to make a trip to check it out unless he can send me some jpg's.

Then, this dude we all know as JP... posted a picture of his brand new NS2, so I thought hmmm....that with an oil finish (I just don;t like gloss...) and Pao Ferro fingerboard and black hardware, that would be SEXY!!

Then.....It was a few Buckeye Burl ones that REALLY turned me on. Now the issue at hand is that with exotic woods, the finishes and final "wood pattern" will differ quite a lot.

So....opinions? Patrick, would it be possible to get the finish of your NS2 in natural oil, or would it look too much like my Forte 4? And also, would they be able to find a spalted maple wood that has a ton of pattern in it like the one shown on Bass Centrals site?

I am so torn.........;)

I think you're thinking too much. I mean, if you got the money, time, and desire to be that picky then shoot, none of us here can help you. But any bass you listed would make most of our top 5 lists so just relax and let it flow, ya know? The right bass will come to you.

Ok guys. I really need help here.

My NS-2A was wired backwards (P-pup was wired to J terminal, and J-pup was wired to P terminal) Anyway, I removed the old pups and put in the EMG-HZs (P/J)

The EMG P has only one wire, the J has 5. As far as I can tell, no wires will be soldered to the pots. Wiring would go straight to the haz copy board. Correct?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? :help:

The P pup must be 2 wires. One center conductor (hot) and a braided shield (ground) otherwise you can't get a signal.
I think Phat knows how to wire this as he has done it before.... But, the schematic is pretty simple - substitute the poles on the board for the connection points in the schematic you posted.
Be careful not to melt through the center conductor when soldering the ground shields to the neg post.

i believe what trace was saying is that one wire has a core (hot) and a braided shielding (between the core conductor and the white jacket)(ground) if you strip back the wire a little bit what does it look like?

I agree to a point. Meaning yes, anything you allowed Stuart to make for you would be a dream guitar. He simply doesn't make anything but the best.

But at the same token, we're not talking about a $500 or even $5000 bass. We're talking retail costs of $5600+ Of course dealers give breaks and all of that. But when you're dropping that sort of cash for any musical instrument I don't think it's unreasonable to have some input into what you'd like it to look like.

Which is why Stuart and PJ developed the secure dealer site where you can look at and pick out exactly which body (for bolt ons) or which set of wings you want. This pre-dates me. I simply upgraded the look and security to a more sound/current level. But this has been something they've done for many years.

Is there any way to find out what kind of finish is on a pre-2008 Euro 5 LX amber, birdseye poplar? It is glossy.

I have asked in this forum and sent email to [email protected] but have received no responses.

Is it some kind of trade secret? I'm just looking to find out if it's polyurethane or nitrocellulose or something else.

Weird. When did you send the email? I've heard nothing but good things about PJ and spector's customer service.

The area where the shop is Got hit hard by Irene and people were trapped in their houses for a while. It's possible that they haven't got power back yet (areas of my town are just getting it back today) and that could explain why there's been a delayed response, but I dont live/work there so I can't say.

Looks like my own darn fault. I don't see it in my sent messages. Could have sworn I sent it.

I know the hurricane was devastating and surely people have to put a priority on getting their lives and community back together. I wish them the best.

The shop was closed most of last week due to power outages and road damage from the hurricane.

Typically the high gloss finishes are nitrocellulose based. I'm not 100% sure but about 90%.

Give PJ some time to get back into his office and get things caught up. He answers emails in the order that he received them. And he gets over 100 a day.

BTW: The matte finishes are always matte-polyurethane unless it's stated that it's hand-applied oil. Stock models, ones not made to order with an oil finish specified, will always be matte poly.
