Hehe! I'm most definitely not flat stomached :D

I had thought of it, but as I play in a rock/metal band I thought it wouldn't look very good to the audience - might make me look disinterested?

Through gigs I really just grit my teeth and do it, because I love it. The combination of adrenaline, whisky and my ridiculously light Ibanez bass all help ;)

I wish I could try a few out to see what the balance and weight are like - there's no dealer in these parts

I can tell you from experience the SPECTOR basses that I play are so unbelievable well balanced. The weight distribution is perfecto!!!
Yeh, sitting during your gigs would look really bad in your case. :D

Screw the audience, this is your health :D Besides, there have been plenty of metal musicians that have been injured before and went on stage in a wheel chair or sat on a stool of some sort. In all seriousness, I really don't think the audience would care and if you start ripping some killer bass lines, they wouldn't even notice.

Even around here in the US, none of the Spector dealers seem to have models on display that you can try out so it's almost as tough here which is kind of sad. I bought my Euro and had never touched a Spector in my life but once I played it for the first time, I knew I had something special.

Just looking at them and hearing them on youtube etc makes me know that they are a special beast. Especially the fully carved ones with the concave back. Just absolutely stunning.

What I wouldn't give for a Euro 5LX - I'd swap all of my basses for just one of those! If only they were under 8.5lbs :(

^When I went to a Sam Ash store in Columbus, Ohio they only had 2 legends hanging on the wall. GC had zero! :mad:
I bought my legend 4, my first SPECTOR, without trying any first. But like you...just hearing Doug Wimbish playing was enough for me!

Exactly. The Sam Ash by me had a Legend or two but that wasn't the model I wanted so I didn't even bother. I must have almost 10 Guitar Centers near me that are within an hour or an hour and a half from me but none of them have any in stock. The only luck you can get is if they have a used one in stock but Euro's aren't as common.

I did ask one of the Guitar Centers why they don't stock the more expensive basses and they said it doesn't really pay for them to do so. They tend to just sit there and never get sold which even annoyed the employees since they get questions about them all the time.

It's almost like the only way to try one out is to find people in this thread that live kind of close and meet up with them. I am lucky to have Limaguy close to me since he has an addiction to buying Spector's so I get to try them out :D

I do think they can be misleading at times, but some times, I think they just don't know any better. The lack of knowledge to pretending you know what you are talking about ratio is very high at guitar center.

In Vegas, they had a Ibanez Ashula bass, one of the new 6 strings that are fretted for the bottom 4 strings but the top 2 are fretless. I was interested by the idea. The "bass guy" got it down for me to try (Just as I expected, kind of a neat idea but the implementation was just not very good). I asked if they had any regular fretless basses, he said "most of the fretless basses we get in are like this one, just fretless on a couple of strings." yeah, no they are not.

Might want to check out a rebop also. They are bolt on, but its not a down grade with spector, just a slightly different flavor. Similar tone and great sustain due to the design but with a little different attack imo. I'm not a bolt on fan but I love my "Brownie " definatly worth a look. They are a bit lighter with the ash body, and the curves are there to give you the comfort. The only bolt on I have played that really changed my mind about them.

Not sure about bolt-on. I always thought my dream bass would be NT

They sure do. I've been laid up for the best part of a week now, haven't even picked up a bass. Can barely walk.

Biggest gig of the year is in two nights, and I refuse to sit it out! Whisky, painkillers, massages, and I'll be up on stage, business as usual :)

My band don't even know about the trouble otherwise they might make me sit it out and replace me for the night. Not a chance.

Anyway... I've wandered OT, sorry!

Same here. I guess I could have gone to Washington Music Center since they are a dealer but I didn't. I ordered mine from Bass Central sight unseen. I listened to SPECTOR players. Got info from this thread and YouTube clips. I couldn't be happier. I love my Euro5LX

She has a 34" scale and a soft, ball shaped volute. The bridge was swapped out as part of a weight loss program (didn't lose much).



Yes, she's the stripper. :)

Since you say she's 34" and the bridge was changed we might be able to narrow it down.

If she has the Double S logo, she's around an early '99 transitional model where they reaquired the Spector trademark and were starting to ramp up the Euros with inlays and 35" (Czech 5 strings and US 5's & 6's) scale. A few slipped through still at 34" scale with dots.

If she has an SSD logo she's '98 or earlier.

The DR Black Beauties make her a Diva.

This is all assuming she's not some kind of special order, which I doubt being a Czech (No offense to any Czechs out there).
