"As long as the family still eats, still has roof with working lights and transportation, get what ever you need to make your self happy."
My wife has said this to me many times when I start "freaking out" about bills and say I feel guilty.

John, John, John...:eyebrow: you work hard, you deserve to play hard! I earn a little by flipping basses and work my way up to the SPECTOR bass I'd like. I found as in most anything worth owning, you get what you pay for...quality! More $$$ = more quality.:bassist: At one time I did ask myself if I really needed that next better quality bass when a Legend would be okay? Ya know what...I'm only here on the green side of this sod for a very short time, a better quality bass isn't going to hurt anything or anyone. Plus I play in 2 bands...if that next bass will play easier, sound better...it'll only make my bands sound better. :D

Thanks Guys :) Believe me, I definitely won't be feeling guilty any more if I get thoughts like that again :D You know what? I do work really hard so treating myself to something that I love is definitely worth it. Hey, there are much more expensive hobbies out there too.

The NS-2's on this site actually belong to Todd Cooke.
(check the review page about 20 reviews down the page)

Thats about the best reference you can get in the Spector community. ;) :bassist:

Their work does look great.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use Sims Custom Shop for refinishing your Spector. I have repeatedly ask him to remove the quote on his website. I had major trouble with this guy. I first sent one bass to have refinished in chrome and a couple weeks into it I had decided to have 2 others done. He said it wouldn't slow the first one down at all and he could have all of them back to me in 4 weeks. 5 weeks later no basses and no answer from him from the messages I left. I decided to call from a different phone an immediately he answers. As soon as he realizes it is me he starts with the excuses. About 4 weeks later I get the first bass back and says that the second bass would be coming the next week. Over 2 months later I finally get the second one back. The 3rd bass, which was the first one I sent never makes it back. He calls me after I have left several more messages and says his shop burned to the ground and he lost over 50 instruments in the fire and has no insurance. Tells me he will try to work out something on payment but has several people to pay so it will take some time. Needless to say, I had to file a claim with my insurance company on my home owners policy to get my money back for the bass that burned.

So please take my advice and pass it on to your friends, this guy is BAD NEWS!!!!

Thanks for the heads up.
It is also messed up that he is still using your name as a positive thing for him.
I was actually considering possibly using this guy because you used him. Will NEVER use him now. :rollno:

What a Freaken Jerk!!!

Does anyone have an opinion on the Mighty Mite preamp for a NS2a? I'm thinking about getting that or a tone pump.

I read a review somewhere that a guy had compared them component for component and the were the same as the HazLab copy from an NS2A, just different brands of components. I almost bought one but found a real one out of an NS2A. Might be worth a try...

That's right man, Life is too short to not enjoy yourself. We have put off trips in the past, I always said "Someday" I will have an American Spector, and usually we will put little fun things off so that we have a little more in the savings account, or something like that. Last year when I got sick, it really made me look differently at some things. Don't get me wrong, I am not putting my family into debt to get a new bass or take trip or something, but being sick and thinking crap, I wanted to take my kids to Disneyland or something else and almost didn't get the chance too, I am not putting stuff off anymore. We work hard and my wife sees how happy my Spector makes me (She laughs at me, if my Spector in my hand or something with Nazi's on the history channel (Just fascinated by WW2 stuff, always have been), or hanging out with my kids I am happy).

So having said that, I need to go talk to her about a Forte....LOL :ninja:

The copy of a copy ! Lol wonder why mighty might didn't copy the USA haz , instead of the haz copy ?

Its probably a good unit , but after all these threads , I really don't remember any in depth discussion about them . Just a little here and there's.

Todd...thanks for letting us know about Sims customs.
What a horrible thing to have went through! :scowl:
Had you verified that his shop actually burned to the ground?
Too bad he ended up treating you and who knows how many others like that. His work on the web-site looked awesome. I'm deleting his website from my Favs!

Hey Jeffplaysbass! How's the Ian Hill sound differ with HazLab vs. Tonepump?
I'd love to hear a clip plz??? :D

Something REALLY cool...I was able to hear & see my former NS-2A (Big Red) in action! :hyper: It did my heart good to see 5Stringfool gig on with Big Red! :bassist:
How many here have had the opportunity to see/hear their former basses in gigs?

Here's a thread about the company. Several have had issues with him:

Since I come from a cust serv background.
I just checked the BBB complaint rating on Sims Customs and it has 33 complaints in the past 3 years. 22 were unresolved. :eyebrow:
and it is on the BBB buyer beware watch list.

33 complaints in 3 years is just a crazy amount of problems for a place that size. :rollno: :spit:
