Well right now I'm playing through and ashdown mag300 evo head into a genz benz 2x10 and a yamaha 2x15 and I'm digging my tone... The GB gives me the highs I need, and talk about low end... I push a good amount of air :D I would really like to try out the Krank Basszilla cab Invalid Link Removed

they are a local company to me so I'm trying to find one to try out.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I went for with the rig I have now. I feel like I might be missing out on some of the Spector growl because of the pre in my Rebop, but it still sounds amazing when slapping.

What are you using for your rig? What preamp do you have in your Rebop? I'm considering selling my Tonepump that is missing the trimpot from my Euro LX5 as I'd like to upgrade to the Trim pot version of the Tonepump. It's just too hot for my needs.

Here's another question for you guys: What amplifier/cabinet combination or amplifier alone sounds the best with your Spector? I'm curious to hear you guys' opinions cuz these basses are growly as is, so I can't picture em going too well with Tube amps. I could be mistaken, though!

And Trace, in your case, how does the sound of a Spector coming out of a Trace Elliot compare to that of a Spector coming out of an Ampeg?

I've used A Demeter vtbp-201s into a QSC PLX1602 into a Bergantino NV215. That set up didn't get me the growl I was expecting from my Euro5LX so I got a Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0. Now the growl is all there. I think the Demeter's inherent ultrasmooviness was killing the growl. Oh and the Berg just freekin' kills.

Umm that was an All-Ages skate park.. Other times it has been Hard Rock Cafe.. The bars usually aren't so bad.. Just smelly and drunken cougars haha
LOLOL!! Gotta watch those 2 legged cougars...they can be more vicious than the 4 legged breeds!:help:
man I get busy at work and there is a new thread with 8 pages :)

question for you guys.. I'm talking with a guy selling a Legend 4 string... he said its a "special run" in 2008 with active pups.. He confirmed they were emg/ssd pups and it had the tonepump jr. so passive pups and active pre... right? can you guys just confirm I'm not going crazy..
Tell me about it! I've been away from TB for 1 day and there's 6-8 pages added!
I have a Legend 4 and the tonepump Jr. is active but the EMG SSD's are passive.
That Forte better be amazing. :bassist:

I am down from 6 Spector basses to 3 in a few weeks.

They are anxiously waiting on their new Big Brother.
But at the same time wondering if their crazy owner will cut them for another USA model after he arrives. ;) :hiding:

Spectors2.gif
Your museum is looking a little bare LimaGuy! :bassist: You'll be back in full strength before you know it. I was up to 4 in my stable...now down to one! Every time I look over to my music area I get to feeling panic striken!:help::eek::crying:
The one Spector to rule them all:D:D
Right on!!!:bassist: Then LimaGuy will sell the aliens.:hiding:
I'm getting sick of this iPhone app. I keep accidentally sending incomplete messages.

As I was trying to say, I have been playing my Kramer era NS-2's for years and right now my Forte X has moved ahead of them as my go to right now. I've gotten a bunch of complements on the way it sounds live, even compared to my NS-2.
I hear ya on the iphone APP! I can't even use it since I did the iOS5 update!:scowl: One of the administrators had the same happen to him so he's aware and working on it. One of my son's is a software programmer so I know these things can take time to correct.
You talking about the iPhone app ? If so you can post pics directly .
Yes, I confirm that. It's just the upload size allowance that's annoying!:scowl:
There's a way you can turn the autocorrect function off in the settings app. I turned it off on mine cuz I was getting frustrated with the dictionary it uses. It's supposed to 'adapt' to your language, but like you said, it just became a PITA.

When you're replying to a thread, there's a button on the top bar with a + sign (to the right of where it says 'New Reply'). If you click that button, it'll give you the option to upload a picture from your phone. The only problem I had was that I had to frequently delete and reupload the pictures I was trying to post cuz it was taking too long, but it'll work eventually!
+1
Yup, iPhone app. I've tried that way several times, it always tells me that I've exceeded my limit by a certain amount of KB.
+1 Grrrrrrrrr! :mad::atoz:

My band plays in drop C, but I don't like my low B all the way down to G lol. So I kinda have it in a hybrid way-
ACGCF. That way you still have your "normal" octave position on your B and A strings which I do a lot of. I really wish I could just tune to D std but with the way my singer writes it'd be impossible to not have that open low C for hammer ons/offs. And at this point I've been doing it for about 1.5 years so it's second nature.

I use a custom Circle K set and honestly with how "right" their tension is, even w/ bigger strings I get better flexibility than I do with say a standard DR or Ernie Ball string tuned down. It's pretty easy to wrap your head around once you get the purpose. Lots n lots of info about this in the Strings forum. I had to widen the nut slots for my B and E strings but that's it. My low B is a .158 and E is a .124 but trust me- I have a standard .135/.105 set of DR's on my Stingray in the same hybrid drop C tuning, and it's no biggie to go back and forth. I only haven't gotten my custom strings on the SR5 yet because I wanna make sure I'm keeping it before I mod the nut any and have to replace it. If it's up to snuff after the next few months I'll have it setup same as my NS-5.

And actually nowadays, I don't even keep a bass in E std anymore. I just transpose up if I need to. My at home/backup bass is in D std.
What genre' do you play?
Hey everyone. Wow. Chapter 16 of this thread came fast!
Number 15 was burnt through in record time!

I've been on the East Coast for the past 7 days. Visited Bass Central... got some KILLER photos and discovered a SUPER RARE SPECTOR in their inventory!

I'll tell you all about it a little later when I've had time to get the photos processed.
Welcome back JPS!!
Thanks for the info guys. I have been reading the strings forum most of the day today and now I am on information overload :) Rockstarbassist, I think I have seen your progress over the past year with the different strings your tried, LOL. I was reading the DR DDT thread and then see your posts in the Circle K threads so it's like I was catching up with your trial of different strings :D

I think I am going to pickup a used Rex Pro bass and use that as a bass for different tunings and have it setup for that. Not sure if I want to go for a 4 or 5 string yet so I will have to decide on that. I am looking through my Pantera Bass Anthology book and it shows Rex tuned down to G# on the song "13 steps to nowhere"
Cool!
haha i hear ya! after i get my bass set up and i'm using same strings, same tuning, etc., i don't think it's really necessary but i still do it. it always feels "off" when I try and DIY it! :(
I enjoy setting up my own bass...something relaxing about it.:D

I don't know how you guys manage playing down turnings without getting mixed up unless you're playing a lot of open strings or you don't switch back and forth??? Im a newbie bassist compared to you guys. Makes my brain hurt thinking about it!:rollno: All my brain can do when I switch up between 4/5 strings in same gig. :help:

Nothing wrong with 2 810 cabs for a bar, I ran them for years...It was kind of nice, if the sound man was a dick, i just simply didn't use him....LOL

Who needs a sound guy if you're gigging in a bar with 2-810's?!?!
With my B-15T Ampeg I can reach the whole auditorium of 400+. Back a couple weeks ago after a gig the sound guy came to me and said he could pickup my rig in the house board but I was cutting thru the mix loud and clear. My wife and others said the same thing. I only had the master set at 4! Lol

Does anyone have experience buying strings straight from Soector? I've been thinking about getting that. New strap, Tonepump preamp, and a t-shirt or something, I'm also needing strings.

Are they decent strings? Or should I shy away from them?

I bought a set of the stainless steel strings from Spector and have to say I was very disappointed with them. I am not sure which model Spector you have but I tried them on my Euro 5LX and ripped them right off the bass. I haven't tried the nickel ones so others might be able to comment on them but once I put DR Hi Beams on the bass, it sounded amazing again.

To be honest, I only want to drop tune so I can play along with songs from groups I like. I am not in a band so its not like I need to down tune for that but most of the bands I listen to use different tunings so if I want to play along with them, I need to re-tune. Some of them, I can play on my 5 string but a good deal of them use open strings to play and tuning to what they are currently at makes much more sense.

That ashdown is sweet. The guys from Trace Elliott started Ashdown when TE sold to Gibson...

I was gonna get them for my Euro 5 LX, but I won't now. I think I'm gonna try out the DR Hi Beams, everyone seems to like them. Did you need to get a super long scale due to the 35" scale bass?

That's some crazy power. I'd never even heard of something that could handle that many cabs. I guess i'm still new at this, huh? Your shows must be crazy loud.

Wow, that's something I would love to hear! I didn't see any mention of this amp on the TE website, maybe I wasn't looking hard enough. This is definitely something worth GASing for along with the AH1200SM. Dang it, Trace, I JUST got a new one!

LOL. I got into a neighbor war with a rooster fish across the street a while back. I set up everything I had a lowended everything he had off his shelves for 4 weekends in a row... he sold his mobile home and moved away a few weeks later. Problem solved.

The V8 is extremely rare. The last o saw sold for 4700.00 plus shipping... but man o man what a sweeeeet sound you get from it. Especially with a SPECTOR!

Euro4 or 5LX? I ask because I have a 5LX and the a nontapered B string fatter than a 125 wouldn't fit in my bridge. The 125 fit but I had to give it a good squeeze with pliers to get it to fit. And yes the HighBeams do sound amazing.
