Spector Club - Part 7

Don't know if this guy is just real ignorant (he's been told several times and this is a re-list with no change) or just trying to pass it off:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320621103016&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:VRI

Listing it as a "Euro5" with price to match.
It's obviously a "Rebop5 DLX".

He copied the info verbatim from the Spector site, but doesn't even realize several traits in his (well done, BTW) pictures don't match the description.

Feel free to pile on and inform him of his error. :D

Yeah, I told him too a day or two after his first listing started. He argued with me at first, then no reply.

Mystery Solved.

The photo on the website is wrong. I'll correct it.
The NS-2000B has a single pup, TWO knobs. Just like the CG photo shows. I ran the photo by PJ.

It is not an OLP. It's a Spector NS-2000B.

The photo on the website is my fault. We didn't have any photos of the NS-2000B single pup, now that I recall. So the image is of a double pup model with a pup removed and the single put in the correct position. I didn't think to remove the knobs because I didn't have any photos to go from, just a decription.

Yes, there are a few photoshop fakes which have been created. But they are mainly in this section.

We didn't have a Newsted bass we could photograph. And we didn't have an NS-2000B.

The only other fake in this entire site is in the Brooklyn section... two pickup SB-2 model. PJ himself has never seen one of these. They are that rare. But SB-1 models are not as rare. So we created the SB-2 photo using an SB-1.

Just keeping it real. Which is why we spend the time now to photo document every model with high resolution, professional photos.

We felt it was better to have a doctored photo that was accurate for identification than non-at-all... And I messed that up with the NS-2000B. Sorry guys.

So it'd be well worth the $174.00 they're asking since it's a rare model?

The more this rattles around in my head, the more it comes back.
The NS2000 came first, followed a while later by the NS2002 (don't ask me how NS1000 got in my head).

Yeah, the 4 knobs on the single pickup, totally passive settup made no sense at all. I'm surprised no one else asked about that previously.

I guess it took a curious rookie to stir the think tank! Lol :D

Yeah. That's a Rebop. A nice one too.

I think the most I would pay for a used Rebop would be $750 (FM or EX)

And since I'm still looking for a Rebop 5, I might have to sell my recently acquired NS-2A. :(

I also messaged the eBay seller - gave him a link to the Rebop 5 page on the Spector site.

How do you like the NS-2A? I'm thinking of buying one.

I do love my Rebop 5 DLX Nat finish that I purchased used this spring for $499.00. Like new! Came with a roadrunner case but sold case(Had a dive issue) replaced with a brand new Spector hardcase!

Yeah... it has something strange going on with the headstock. Nothing major. Looks like the "SPECTOR" was sanded off. Perhaps the person who owned it didn't like that there.

Look closely at the nut. It's been replaced. That nut looks to be bone. It doesn't affect anything really... but these came with graphite (black) nuts. Not brass. And certainly not bone.

So again, hardly like new. And this bass has seen some moisture. There is oxidation on the bridge. So it's been in a humid and warm climate.

Just FYI.

Thanks guys for standing in there upholding Spector...keeping ppl in line!

So that one is a DLX model? And it has neck dive issues?
Do tell, im curious.
What does the DLX stand for?

I believe DLX stands for Deluxe. The neck dive is minor on my Rebop 5 DLX but tolerable. Well worth it! I gig mine weekly...always get positive comments on the tone and looks!

What does the DLX stand for?

Spector ReBop: Bolt-On neck with Dot Inlays, Alder body, EMG-HZ pickups & Aguilar OBP-1 preamp
Spector ReBop DLX: Adds traditional Spector Crown Inlays to neck, preamp change to Spector TonePump (extremely close to Aguilar, both 2-band Boost-only units)
Spector ReBop DLX FM & EX: Adds Flame Maple (FM) or Zebrawood (EX: Exotic) "top" (often 1/2 and over the thickness of body) to Alder body, preamp change in late 2008/early2009 to TonePump Jr. which adds Internal Trimpot to lower high output of standard TonePump preamp

Close. :D
The Aguilar OBP-1 is close to the Tone Pump. The OBP-2 and OBP-3 are different animals.

Early Tone Pumps had no trim pots and were very hot.
Later and current Tone Pumps, while still hot when maxxed, now have a trim pot.
The Tone Pump Jr. is a lower level Tone Pump pre commonly found in Legends.

FWIW, I replaced a "Jr" with a "Sr" in a Legend and couldn't really tell the difference (the SSD's had already been replaced with TW's).
From there I went with a Spector era OBP-1 and heard a marked difference.
It makes me wonder why Spector stopped using these.

I don't believe it was as big an issue with the 4 strings in this and the previous series (dot neck).
The concensus seems to be that the solid Alder bodies were a little light to balance well with the chunkier, heavier necks of the first two series of Rebops (much chunkier than any other series of Spector I've ever owned). More so on the 5 strings.

The current EX and FM series have slightly heavier bodies helping with balance overall.
So it'd be well worth the $174.00 they're asking since it's a rare model?
Yes and No.
Worth it? The price is OK.
Rare? No. JPS did the website pic digitally and forgot to remove two knobs for the single pickup NS2000B.
How do you like the NS-2A? I'm thinking of buying one.
These are phenomenal basses if you are looking for a lower priced Spector. I would spend the extra dough and get one of these long before an NS2000B or NS-94/94.
I've owned 3 over the years and paid as little as $250 for one in fine shape. $400-$500 should snag you a very nice one.

So the neck profile is different than the current Euros?
Ive never had the chance to play one and see for myself. And seeing as the bass in question is an older one, I probably wouldnt have the chance to try it in a store up here..

Not to mention the only store that carries Spectors in my city has stopped cause "they arent one of the big brands that everyone wants". So, now I have nowhere to try anything out and kill or horrifically aggravate my GAS. :atoz:

Also, what finish is that bass? Just so I know, Im kinda colourblind, so describing whatever colour I think it is would do me no good :(

So it'd be well worth the $174.00 they're asking since it's a rare model?

I'd say it's only ever going to be worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It's not a collectable model... really. It's rare. But it's a mass-produced, lower quality made-in-China piece.

I think it's worth the $174.

But could you sell it for much more. Probably $200 to $250 at most.

But this is just my opinion. I have almost bought models like this just to have one of these weird-rare imports. But then I stop and think... I'm not going to play it... and this may sound strange coming from someone who "ohs and ahs" over Spector basses... I'm not a collector. I like playing them. So I always pass. But again... that's just me.

I have to balance wanting every Spector I see... even the more rare ones like that SD-5 on Ebay... and being found blugeoned to death with one of the afore mentioned Spectors by my wife. :-)

How do you like the NS-2A? I'm thinking of buying one.

I love my NS-2A. It's a keeper for me. Of course I've invested way more in it's restoration than it will ever be worth... so I'm married to it.

Overall it's a great bass. And in my opinion, the nicest neck-thru Korean model you can get. Kramer wasn't too concerned with cutting corners back when this model was born. So it's a really, really nice instrument for the money.

Thus... one of the reasons why Kramer when Bankrupt. And BTW... so no-one misunderstands... Stuart had NOTHING to do with the running of Kramer.

Actually, the only division of Kramer that was profitable during Stuart and Spector's sint with them... was Spector. :-)

I just picked up an NS- 95. In my opinion It is one of the nicest instruments I have ever played. Just talk to PJ Rubal about those early Korean models. Definitely hidden treasure. The answer is yes.

Yes! I agree.

"Korea is the New Japan".

I remember when everyone was freaked out that Fender was going to start making guitars in Japan. And now, the Japanese Fenders are considered to be really good.

The fact is that our Korean shop has always done a great job with quality. And they get better and better.

The Korean N/T models are great. The NS-2A is still my fav. It's more like the USA models in shape, meaning the two areas where the current Euro Models are different from the USA models... where the neck mets the headstock on the back and there the body meets the neck on the back... the NS-2A is identical to the USA models in these two areas. Litereally it was an exact copy of the USA models of the time.
