I totally agree.
The TP is dirty... gritty sounding.
The OBP-2 and OBP-3 are very clean, very crisp. And very powerful... meaning they have a bunch of headroom. You can really crank out the volume before you start peaking, whereas the TonePump will peak much earlier... thus the addition of the trim pot on the unit. Which is what makes the TP worth keeping in my opinion.

Dial a TP in and hit its sweet spot and it'll get you so much closer to the USA NS-2 Haz sound than the OBP could ever attempt. And of course the TP was designed to sound like the Haz... And Aguilar made the OBP for every/any bass manufacturer... so that makes sense.

If you want a clean, crisp sound that really has nothing to do with the traditional Spector sound... the OBP is a great choice.

If you want the dirty-growly low sound that the NS-2 is traditionally known for... keep the TonePump and play with that trim pot until you dial it in to what sounds best for you.

What efficiency? Politics and politicians generally disgust me.

I think we should elect gangsta rappers to high political office. Seriously. You gonna mess with Jay-Z? Or cross Little John?
I don't thinks so. And for the record, Biggie Smalls was the JFK of rap. Just puttin' that out there.

It's not a collectable model... really. It's rare. But it's a mass-produced, lower quality made-in-China piece.

I think it's worth the $174.

But could you sell it for much more. Probably $200 to $250 at most.

But this is just my opinion. I have almost bought models like this just to have one of these weird-rare imports. But then I stop and think... I'm not going to play it... and this may sound strange coming from someone who "ohs and ahs" over Spector basses... I'm not a collector. I like playing them. So I always pass. But again... that's just me.

I have to balance wanting every Spector I see... even the more rare ones like that SD-5 on Ebay... and being found blugeoned to death with one of the afore mentioned Spectors by my wife. :-)

I feel your pain JP on the want! I feel like a kid in the candy store. But my budget is very limited at home. I have to buy at the great deal level. Your experience, professions bass skill and Knowledge matters to me and I do appreciate those in you. As well as other long timers on this thread. I'm a bass player and a "wish I could be a collector", but at this time I'm wanting to buy for superb quality of playing. My 1st taste and still own is the Spector Legend 4 classic then stepped up to the Euro Rebop 5 DLX. I'm in a toss up right now between a NS-94 or a NS-2A. I like that they're both neckthru designs. As for the electronics, I'm intrigued with the P/J on the NS-2A...would like to try it...but I guess with the NS-94 I'd like to know how the tone is and it's a SSD model which is nostalgic. Which to buy??? So many choices so little $$$!!! Argh!!!!

I see red flags on that white one. One pic. Short description. Saying over $50 shipping "u pay". The use of U instead of you...:smug: And has 2 negatives recently. See if he'll let you take a look at it maybe?

I've owned quite a few NS2A's, both with and without active EMG's. I'm a bit hesitant to buy another unless I can play it first. While some have been great, others have had issues. Most from years of playing like bad pots or since the frets aren't glued in, raised frets. I've sold some nice ones, but more because I get bored with things :) than anything, but it just seems I've run into more issues on these than say the US NS2's from that era.
