However, they also have a Rex Legend listed as a "Forte 4" for $649. :eyebrow:

I went and checked out that used Euro-4LX that GC has on-line as it's right here at one of my local GC's.

It's the first time I've had a chance to mess with one of the LX 4 strings. I was also curious as it's the somewhat matching model to my current #1, Euro4 (Flame Maple Natural Oil).

Wow is the neck on these thick (front to back) compared to my Euro4. In fact, my US (Red Gloss) and NS2A's all seem to have a relatively similar neck thickness. The LX was like a half a bassball bat in comparison.

This isn't really a bad thing to me. It reminded me of my old Steinberger L2 which was my main bass for about 7 years (sharing time with my US and NS2A Spectors). I was just caught off guard by the difference.

In general, this bass didn't feel as subtantial in comparison to my Euro4 either. It was definately lighter.
With your eyes closed, my Euro4 is everybit the bass my US is (better in some ways). With eyes closed the LX feels more NS2A-ish. It's not a bad bass. Still higher in quality than the Legends (which are great for their price point). It just seems like they took a step back when they switched from the Euro4/5 formula. My old NS4CRFM & NS5CRFM basses also felt much closer to the USA bass than this LX does. They were almost as good as my Euro series.

How recent is that bass?
I know they did some custom Maple boards in the past, but I don't remember if any were Czech basses.
If it's new, I'm surprised someone has a Euro/Maple this quick after the anouncement of the availability of the Maple boards.

Beautiful bass.

Whoa!

Maple fingerboards are ONLY available on USA Spectors.

The Euro model in the photo was a custom job done several years ago for a SPECTOR artist and friend in Spain. There were 3 or 4 done (if I remember correctly) and THIS IS NOT an option for Euro models at this time.

The only other material that is available for Euro Spectors besides rosewood is ebony and it's ONLY available on the Alex Webster model.

As I've said before many times... PJ Rubal is the ultimate decision maker for this sort of thing. If you really want a Maple Fingerboard Euro, ask him and see if it's something he'd consider doing as a custom bass.

But the production models do not offer maple as a fingerboard option.

The gold is a zinc-brass alloy... the black is annodized aluminum. So yeah... the brass will be a lot heavier.

I hate to say it Chris... But I think I like the gold better. It makes it pop to me. The black just sort of makes it look at little too monochromatic. IMHO.

Honestly, this is your baby. What do YOU think?

My personal first choice would be Black - on a Silverburst, it's perfectly matched with the bursted edges and "black" side of a Silverburst paint job (I would describe SB to people that know nothing about instrument finishes as "Black and Silver in a fight" ;) ), but a close second would indeed be Chrome. To my eyes a Gold bridge & Tuners would be too much with nothing to "tie" it into the finish and somewhat out-of-place on this paint scheme while Chrome would work well with the "silver" side of a Silverburst.

...than again, is the Spector bridge even available in Chrome? That alone may make your choice for you, but if so I'd think hard between it and Black (I generally prefer Black over Gold on the vast majority of basses I see due to wear 'n tear/pitting issues on Gold hardware, the "bling" factor, and that as a bolt-on player I'm not looking for the sustain issues that most Spector neck-through playser are... the Black Aluminum bridge gives me the "snap" and attack I'm looking for from my bolt-ons :) )

...and diechris? You've given me yet another option on my custom "Effects Bass" (Sustainiac Driver, Kahler Bass Trem, some type of outragous paint finish) that I'd like to make from a Euro Bolt-On. I was thinking a nice "[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]" (and I'd never deal with Patrick Sims, but the pics *are* killer) - I figure on the concave Spector body that finish would constantly be "set off" and changing colors due to the ever-changing angles and the light hitting it) but Silverburst would be extremely nice as well... :bawl:
