Other than being overtightened, many don't relieve the string tension when tightening (many say you should if loosening also but this seems unneccessary to me as the rod is moving with the force, not against it). Tightening against the string tension could cause it to strip.
Kinda what I was thinking too...I went to Spectors site and read the tech tips and he doesn't even tell you to loosen the tension of the strings. I wonder if it's in the null zone as the tech tips speak of? This isn't my bass but someone else.

Lol I just talked with him bc I'm particular about the shipping. He's out of town till Saturday so won't get it till next week. /:
