I was simply answering the question as to what the standard SPECTOR USA fingerboard material is.
So, I've been wondering about the US bolt-on basses and the "less curved body than the US neck-thrus". Has this always been the case? I used to own a NS-5JH, but never really noticed any difference in the shape. Thoughts?
Looks, feels, and sounds better in my (admittedly limited) experience with it. Bubinga is also a species of rosewood, so I guess there's a lot of variation.
Well, the Reddish/Amber one is Jauqo III-X's. It's been floating around here, BassGear.com and eBay (under some company that seems to be representing him in the sale) for a couple of months now.So, there is a SSD era Spector NS-6 for sale on evilBay. Serial #020 4/12/95

Was this a boo boo? Was it given the same number because it had the added piezo bridge? Only 26 produced. Hmm...
I was thinking about it, but I'd rather have the 35" scale and used Euro 6 LX's are typically going for $1100-$1200 on eBay so I can't really see $2300-$2400 for a used, 34" scale SSD.
The green one I haven't seen. Where is that? Same serial?! Is the date different? I can see the same year (95) but nothing else. Weird.
QUESTION...PIEZO...What does it do to the tone of a bass? i.e. SpectorCore.

In a word, AWESOME. I had a NS-5P with the piezo. It added much to the tonal palette. If you are distortion junky, like me, it gives a nice edge. If I were to have a custom Spector it would have the piezo option.QUESTION...PIEZO...What does it do to the tone of a bass? i.e. SpectorCore.

I'm still at a crossroad with buying a SpectorCore...wish I could try one. What appeals to me is the Piezo and the tone of semi-hollow body, plus it should be even lighter in weight. I'd reeeaaally would like to hear the tone before buying though.
I love the tone of the neck-thru of my NS-2A, so I'm also thinking of the Rex5 plus it had the EMG40 pups w/active electronics. A real thunder machine!
The thought of trying a true passive/passive bass with EMG40 pups really intrigues too...like the Mike Kroeger 5, plus it's a set-neck, which has great tonal sustain also.
And there's a couple of NS-20005-5s on eBay for a decent price...they're neck-thru

Here's a question for the Spector masses. I love everything about my NS-5H2 except the neck finish... I hate finished/sealed necks. Can I take some ultra-fine sandpaper and take it off/wear it down? Anyone else tried that? I know that can be done with satin-type finishes, but I don't know if this qualifies.
The neck on the natural Euro I had a while back was heaven and Spector's matte-finished necks feel great too, so it's definitely something about this clearcoat stuff... hate it.

A while back, a bassist in Pennsylvania had it up for sale on the CL. Unfortunately, I do not have a pic of the date. I'd be surprised to find they were numbering non-"P" versions and standard versions with duplicate, concurrent serials.
Plus, with at least "20" of each model, that those two pix would seem to suggest in that scenario, we would have a minimum of 40 USA 6 strings produced during the SSD era, not the stated 26.
It's like John Turner's #043 Ritter twins all over again....

After reading the specs on the AWESOME new Spector site(kudos to you JPS) I thought...I believe this is what I'm really looking for in sound in a 5r!It really was a no brainer...a Rex 5 was more $$$...the Mike Kroeger 5 was about same $$$...both made in Korea...one passive active...one passive/passive. Euro 5 LX active/active!
I had been talking about converting my former Rebop 5 to active/active and my NS-2A. Now I can checkout the tone of active/active before I convert my NS-2A. Than you JPS for putting that eBay add up early this morning! I was looking until 10:30 last night and didn't see it.
