Anyone think the P pup is a little closer to the neck on the neck-thru vs. farther back on the (PJ) bolt-on? I think I would prefer it a little farther back. On the non-PJ neck-thru it looks a little too close (yes, I know it's because of the extra, full 24 fret length).
Mike's were on purpose, the 4 strings were not. I didn't make this stuff up. Was told by PJ Rubal when it happened.

hey guys with hazlab preamps i have a few questions for you.
where do you tend to set your tone controls? do you just tweak them as needed or max them out?
does your bass get noisy if you boost the treble? my bass has a noticeable amout of white noise???. sounds like shhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

My old NS2 had the Haz-Lab. I would run it flat (center detents) most of the time. Only boosting or cutting to try to mimic a specialized bass tone for certain songs. I don't remember any appreciable hiss when the treble was boosted.
I do remember the J pickup soloed was never near the output of the P. I never figured out if this was due to the Haz-Lab itself, or something being up with the EMGs. My current NS2 has an OPB-1 and does not have this issue at all.

I know that I've been talking about this for just about 2 years (if not pre-dating the Part 1 of the Spector Club, pretty early into it's existence) but I've finally placed the order for the pickups for my own personal, fairly unique ToneDump: Custom Nordstrand Big Singles (underwound 5% for a touch more aggressiveness and midrange and a bit less "fullness") and Aguilar OBP-3SK-PPs into my ReBop 4 DLX EX Zebrawood, 5 DLX FM fretted and 5 DLX FM HG Thor-ed fretless.
I've recapped the entire story fairly well in the pickup forum here, but I'm posting here as well because a) they're Spectors and it's a ToneDump, albeit an unusual one, and b) I've gotten several PMs and posts over the time interested in how it turns out. Give me about 6-8 weeks (4-6 for Nordstrand's custom work and 2 for installations) and I'll post some clips so we can see if Nordys can fit well as opposed to the usual EMG-based 'dump.
Just giving interested parties an update on my "Spector/Nordstrand Big Singles/Aguilar OBP-3SK-PPs" Electronics Project. I received the 3 sets of Nordstrands (1 set in EMG-35 4-string shells, 2 in EMG-40 5-string shells, all with a 5% underwind for a touch more aggressive midrange and touch less "fullness" in the pickups) a few weeks ago and they simply look so very cool - just visually I much prefer visible pole-pieces to "Blank Plastic" covers like most EMGs or Bassline Soapbars.
However, Problem #1 was a combination of them arriving close to the Better Half's birthday as well as a crapload of CDs & DVDs being released in October, so my "play" money went to those and her b-day gifts. The original cost for the pickups was also more than I expected due to the Special Order fee due to the EMG housings and Underwinding. On Nordstrand's part, they cut the fee in 1/2 due to the "bulk purchase" nature of my order, so I can hardly blame them - I asked for the unusual/non-standard, and that typically will cost you. Problem #2 is that the installation is going to be somewhat more than my initial estimates based on a test fitting of the Pickups and Aguilar Pots. The OBP-3s Stacked & Push-Pull pot shafts are just a touch wider than the Spector's original pot's shaft, so they need to be routed out a touch. And since I'm doing all three at once, all the knobs alone will cost almost $100 USA.
I'm going to pull out the TonePumps and HZ pups to sell pre-wired, so hopefully that will make up the difference cost-wise. But I hope to have them done within the month, and samples for all not at all long after.* 
Can I ask a general poll on something? Which knobs do you think would look better on a Spector, the "Metal Beveled" or the "Metal Dome"? I know they use the "Metal Beveled" or ones close on the USA Bolt-On, but part of me prefers the smaller, rounder "Dome" knobs to go with the smaller, rounder Spector body. Plus my Lulls have the "Metal Beveled", so a difference would be nice IMO. Kwesi brought up the idea of going with John East's in-house knobs, but unfortunately the difference between dollars and Pounds Sterling would raise the cost on the knobs alone by 54%, which is needed in other areas. Any outside opinion would help, so feel free to post ideas. I like the idea of wood, but I've yet to find "Stacked" or "Push-Pull" Wooden Knobs and they would likely be high in price as well. If anyone has a source for cheaper yet quality knobs, please shout out! (I'm right pissed that Q-Parts, who I've used on the Spectors pre-swapout, doesn't offer any type of Stacked Knobs or "bottom" so I can continue to use my Very Cool Abalone, Black Pearl, and White Pearl knobs

After many years and many basses I have finally got my first Spector - I couldn't resist. It was listed as a '98 NS-4CR. It came to me in excellent condition and setup, complete with new strings of my choicec(DR LoRiders) and OHSC. I've only had it a few days and am anxious to gig it this weekend.
I have a couple of questions and I'm hoping some one here can help me out.
1-Since it's finished solid (I've always been a sucker for white basses) I'm assuming the body and neck are maple - is that correct?
2-The EMG pre is set up with 2 volumes, treble & bass. The tone controls do not have a center detent. Were the earlier preamps boost only?
I am liking this bass - it growls acoustically, which is not typical of my other basses. I notice the J pickup's output is much lower than the P and it's cranked right up to the strings. I found this quote (but I don't have a HazLab):
