In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind buying a cheap used Legend and slapping a Lakland P (or PJ) in it with a passive set-up.
I had a Bob Glaub a while ago (during my unfaithful time
) and, although the BG couldn't compete for feel and playability with my Spectors, that Lakland P pup is THE best sounding P pup I've ever heard.

Damn straight it is, I barely lasted 2 years after my Legend 5. My 4 is still going strong, but I bought a Gibson Grabber, so that gets a fair amount of time on stage and at practice as well.
But most importantly, Euro 5XL Spalted Maple is coming my way. And thanks to a fellow UK TB'er I will be fitting it with an East U Retro with an extra Mid Sweep. stacked Blend/Volume, stacked Mid Select/ Cut/Boost x2, stacked Bass Boost/Treble Boost/Cut/Pull for Presence.
This IS it, more pictures when I pick it up towards the end of the month.

No, both pickups are running through the system. It'll be two separate mid frequencies. One will probably remain somewhere in the low mids for growl, the other a little higher for the punch.
I like a deep, thick, punchy bass tone. Not too boomy, nor too sparkly. At least not for the use this bass in particular will be getting. The mid controls are far more important to me than extreme high or low end. If anything, there will be a tiny boost in lows, and most likely some cut on the high end.

The P pickup is reversed to what Spector normally does. This was actually a mistake on Stuart's part. When they first got their CNC machine he flipped them on accident. I was told there are about 8 like this.
Here's my legend 6, got it a a little over 3 years ago, love it. Also glad I got one when the knobs were still gold.
I just got mine this weekend, it sounds great but its neck heavy, does your nose dive too?
Also, how do you like the Peavey VB-2, been looking at those myself, wondering if I should wait on the VB-3.

I don't know how many were done as "mistakes", but someone earlier posted quite an extensive Spector collection and he had several that had the "vintage correct" P pup positioning. Several of the basses in question (if not all) were without a J also. I'm almost positive he said he ordered them that way.
FWIW, I prefer the reversed P on ANY bass I happen to play/own with a P pup.
