Hey guys. I apologize to all who have requested numbers and haven't received one yet. Short answer is that I am currently going through a divorce and don't have much access to the net and no access to my Spector Club list. I still have all the requests and will assign numbers as soon as possible. Thanks a lot for your patience and understanding.

Carry on with the Spector porn! :D

Hey Ray hate to hear it.

Don't let her get any of your Spector's what ever you do!:D

Just spent around 4000.00 for my spector NS5-Xl
and have relaced the preamp and the pickups trying to get more gain and consistency out of my tone compared to my Hamer Impact 5 string that I bought in 1994 and i finally give up...I guess I should have left well enough alone and just played my HAMER...The Spector's neck is so smooth and plays so nice, but it just don't match the tone that I'm used to with the Hamer...The older basses are hard to beat...I've spent to much time and money on the Spector to have to work this hard to get what i need...we A-B'd the 2 at the gig the other night and the sound man was like wow, the difference in the 2 is incredible...They are similar in weight and have the same style and almost the same look, along with 18 v, but no comparison in the tone...When I slap their is still no bite and consistency..the gain is about a notch below the Hamer when I switch....Anyway, back to my Hamer...here is a photo of the Hamer

as it stands I have EMG-J5'S AND A EMG BTC SYSTEM in the Spector which is the same as the Hamer....

Difficult times Ray and my thoughts are with you mate. A number isn't a problem. Hell if you want give me the last one issued and I'll post for requests and sort it for you.

I'm confused. What did you replace the electronics with? Just the pickups?

I replaced the 40 DC's with EMG 40 J5's...I replaced the Spector preamp with the Emg BTC system...The stock preamp that came in the bass sounded like it had a governor on it when I went to slap...Talked again to guitar tech and he said it's basically the same as my Hamer now electronically and it just has to be the wood or the bass in general..they are both expensive and nice basses but the Spector is no match tone wise, to my hamer.....Nobody believed me until I AB'D them in front of some of the guys in the band and they were like wow...big difference, not as bad as it was when I first got it but still not as strong as the Hamer... time to sell and move on and its a shame because the Spector has quite a feel to it but I am spending way to much time and money and it really shouldn't be this complicated when you spend this kinda money...I guess I should just stick with what i got...I thought this water cured redwood NS5-XL would need no help, obviously I was wrong...Thanksagain for the input...

Same strings? If so, the Spector's 35" scale vs. your Hamer's 34" scale will make a big change because of the difference in string tension. Is the Hamer bolt, through or set neck? another possible reason for the difference.

I'm back to Spectors exclusively again and yes, they do have a samewhat naturally "compressed" response to them. You either like it or you don't.

Now, as far as output level difference, that's a combination of electronics and physical setup (i.e. preamp output settings (flat) and string (action) and related pickup height).

Resolve these issues to where both basses are the same output (if the Spector is somehow maxxed, ratchet down the Hammer a bit to compensate), and you might find you have a whole different perspective on the Spector's "tone".

The Hamer is a neck Thru and a 35 scale.....Same strings...Don't know..To much money to accept it and it not be better than what i already have...I'm guessing I'm gonna sell the Spector and just be happy with what I'vegot...Thanks again..here's my Hamer
