Why always SPECTOR® and not just Spector? haha.

Yeah, i'm a North Carolina SPECTOR® player too! :D

Because that's the proper trademark...
Just as models like NS-2™ should be followed with the ™ symbol.

I've typed them so much lately (and for the website that stuff has to be done... officially) that I just hit the keystrokes automatically now.

Hold the ALT key down and type 174 on your number pad.
Or ALT - 169
Or ALT - 153

It becomes habit© Sorry™
I'll® try to do better...™

:-)

Got my NS-JH5 about a month ago. Absolutely amazing bass :hyper:

SPECTORS RULE! :bassist:

Hey everyone.

Yesterday I got to take photos of a very rare 1977 NS-1 from the first batch of NS basses Stuart ever made.

Serial number 110577.
Back then the serial number was the date of completion. This was etched into the bridge.

So the date on this one is November 5th, 1977. And that dates this bass from the first run of 20 basses made in 1977.

The pickup is actually a DeMarzio "P" that Stuart had a custom cover made for and then mounted into place. The two phillips screws remove the cover. Many people opted to remove these covers over the years, giving way to the myth that Stuart didn't have the equipment in those early days to route the tight "P" pup spaces of the NS-2... but that's not true. This was a design choice. Something to make his guitars a little different from the standard "P" pup basses out there.

A Vinny Fodera "Double-S" Inlay. As time went on the definition or sharpness of that headstock emblem has become less defined. One of the things I've done recently for Stuart and PJ is a vector-CAD version of this logo to bring back the defined shape. This is in regards to marketing materials and not the headstock emblems themselves.

A Stuart Spector home-made tone control. No joke. This is the original Stuart-designed tone control. I could tell you what is inside of those "mummy" wrappings... but then I'd have to...

Everyone who wants to know why Stuart doesn't want to put a Badass bridge on any new Woodstock Spector... here is the answer. The neck height off the body has changed over the years and honestly, the Badass doesn't have enough clearance for the newer necks. This is a great photo example of how close the strings and neck are to the body.

You'd miss it if you didn't know to look for it. This is the way the serials on the first batch of NS basses were handled. Nifty huh?

And of course I had to get a shot of myself in my handy-dandy Spector Workshop Repairman's shirt... only I'm not repairing this guitar and it's definately not my workshop. I'm in my good friend and master luthier's shop... Tracy Longo of Guitar Tech Corner.
He's your West Coast Spector guy... after the job he did on my Kramer Era NS-2A... he's the guy to see for old Spector bass repairs.
This one is getting some neck and headstock work as well as new wiring (keeping the original pots, etc... and unfortunately the tone-control as died. So this one is getting an OBP3. Which means the jack input on the front has to be moved. It's a major operation, but Tracy can handle it.

While I can't argue with the Aggie pre amp if the old one is dead because I have them in all my Spectors :smug:, PLEASE tell me you're not going to route that original beauty to accommodate a new ("moved") input jack!?!

I'm sure that original tone control wouldn't be hard for the Spector boys to recreate. Why not that? :hmm:

I'm taking a whole new direction with my spector -

Using a pick!

So anybody got any pointers on a nice sound?

Oh, and did I ever give you guys some videos of my spector in action?
Simpler & More Tolerable (to ye old gentlefolk whom despise thy musical classification)

#93!!! Looks good to me. Thank you for getting these together!!
Viva La Spector!! :hyper:

I'm not doing anything with it.
I came, took photos and left...
But I think that's what the owner has asked for... to place the jack where we are all used to it being.
If it was my bass I'd leave it in tact, preserve it and retire it.
But the owner still plays it...

To each their own. Not my call.
