Spector NS Dimension

All I have to say as an interested observer, back before the Korg mass production, I really don't think Stuart or PJ would have created such a problem for consumers. And I warned about this way back then.

They really did their homework before introducing a model for production. All because the Spector name was worth something then. It was the culmination of quality and experience.

BTW this is breaking my heart to say all of this. As I've been playing Spectors pretty much exclusively now for three decades, and been into the Woodstock shop with Stuart in 2011.

To whom it may concern:

Message from Taylor's manager;

"Hi Thomas,

Product management has been working very closely with our production operation in Korea to ensure that the replacement instruments will not exhibit the same issue you have experienced with your current instrument. We will have more information regarding the replacement as early as tomorrow. I will be sure to reach out to you as soon as I have confirmation.

Thanks for your patience.

So looks like they are making new basses, we shall see what they decide to do. I can't imagine they are doing anything but putting in 6 string pickups in the new basses. They are contacting me tomorrow with more information. So just more sand through the hour glass for now...

Just found this thread and I'm freaking out, since I ordered not long ago from a local luthier a custom multiscale (34-37") with Fishmans.
I hope 6 string pickups are the case.

I'm afraid Fishman does not offer a 6 string bass pickup yet... :( I've sent an email to Fishman directly to see if they can confirm that the 5 string version is or is not compatible with multiscale basses.

Will keep you posted!

Cheers

The five string pickups could be mounted at a different angle in order to gain the needed pickup coverage and it would allow Spector to continue using the same components and only change the manufacturing process

Here's the difference in coils between my D5 and my 6LX with EMGs . As you can see. The could on the Dimension are barely long enough to make it under the B and G strings. The EMGs in thw Euro go way past the string.

As for not angling the pickups. That won't work. You would end up with very uneven sounding strings.

Is it the same for both pickups? And wow they are barely there on the 5's.

The question I'm wondering is if every unit is like this. A lot of these basses have been sold, and yet only some seem to have this problem. Or is it that some people don't know they have a problem?

Will moving that pup a couple millimeters fix it?

I dont see how a CNC machine could have messed some up amd not others. My guess is the ones that have the issue are the ones using them in a band. Those that don't have the issue just play at home.

I dint believe just moving the pickups a MM will fix the issue. That will just cause the issue to be with the G string instead of tne B. They need wider 6 string pickups.

This is what Dingwall is doing. Seems more than a couple of millimeters.
They make their own pickups.

I'd have to say, the way to overcome the problem is to have the PUP cover the strings accurately. A millimeter or two is not doing much to fix the issue.

Korg has a problem here.
