It is all about geometrics....... but no one wants it to be true or admit it.
I'm hoping you're wrong, but I think you're probably right. This is an important moment for Spector. I get it, fixing the bass properly is going cost a ton, but just doing a "band-aid" fix could be worse.I am 90% sure their fix is not going to be what I feel is needed. I'll end up having it done myself which will result in a fantastic bass.
I was wondering, have you considered already any alternatives? I think EMGs 45/Nordstrands could to the job...I am 90% sure their fix is not going to be what I feel is needed. I'll end up having it done myself which will result in a fantastic bass.
I will likely go with EMGs. I've used Nordstrand in the past. Fantastic pickups. But I definitely want something blade style.
The magnetic paper appears to show they went beyond the maximum cant angle while using the standard pickups.I suspect there is a point that you cannot cant the pickup(s) further as the poles will no longer properly align to the strings. Ideally they would order, or build, custom pups with the poles canted to match the fret angle and then they would mate up nicely.
I assume this as speculation though as I have not seen inside either the Dingwall or Fishmans when in a fanned setup as such.
My guess is the ones that have the issue are the ones using them in a band. Those that don't have the issue just play at home
This is some evidence.
Just received a reply from Spector. The replacements will have the same pickups. Not what I was hoping for. So on the hunt for some 4.5" housings.
SMH
Hope they paid for shipping.
Does anyone know if the 4 string is susceptible to the same pickup issue? Looking at pics I'd be worried it is.
Wow, well I guess this one’s probably crossed off my list then. Weird to change pickups for the first multiscale foray in the first place, and then there’s physical issues with the build design?! Yea that’s ridiculous on a $2k instrument.
