spector vs warwick

For the last time people, when you PAY someone to use their design, it's NOT A RIP!!!
BTW, they're both great basses, but I prefer Warwicks.

Hmmm..... using a design without permission = RIP :spit:
Getting caught and having to pay up = JUSTICE :D
Avoiding paying anymore because Kramer screwed over Spector = RIP :spit:

IMHO it's Spector all the way.... :hyper: :hyper:
That said.... I like early Warwick Thumbs/Streamers & recent Infinity's..... but Spector still blow Warwick out of the water at all price ranges.... ;) :hiding:

See? It's just like I predicted it would happen! I could even have told you that cetera would be one of those :p

But not on this side of the pond, buddy :p
And not for me, either :p

I'm nothing if not predictable.... ;) :D

That'll be because there's no import taxes shoving the price up for a European manufacturer in Europe shops.... :D

IMO the Spector was a better choice. I went to the GC with the mindset I was going to purchase my first Warwick. With all the rave reviews I had read here, how could I go wrong? That was the most uncomfortable bass I had ever played. It weighs a ton and you could chop wood with that neck. I picked up the Spector next to it, and loved it. Powerful sound, lightweight body and a thin wide neck, Perfect "for me". I went with the Spector. I do the like the looks of the Warwicks, and as much as they slightly resemble each other, I think the Spector has better curves, design wise. Its all in that top horn, the Spector is sexy where the Warwick resembles a tool handle.

I've had a Warwick Corvette for years. I recently got a Spector Euro 5LX
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....67380&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_725wt_1110 It plays like a dream but I'm selling as can't get into the 5 string thing. I'm thinking to get a Spector Euro 4. I do love my Warwick Corvette but the Spector is a much better bass. The only other I played was a 6 string thumb I had briefly. That was gorgeous to play. I'm kind of torn between Warwick and Spector. It's crappy for me too being a lefty there's nowhere to try out.

Warwicks are solid sounding (and feeling) instruments with the ability to produce some of the richest deep bass around, as well as reach some awesome glass shattering highs. Warwicks are well balanced and articulate. As far as Spector; the only comparison (to me) is the shape... However, Spectors are nice basses especially if you like EMG.

I've extensively played both of them. I like them both. Both are quality, professional instruments (even the Korean Spectors are killer). That said choosing between them for me would be a "which sound spectrum do you want to emphasize?" question. The Spectors tend to have more emphasis on the upper midrange than the Warwicks. The Warwicks seem to concentrate on the character of their lower mids.

In the lower end models, I'd say the spectors have the advantage. The cheaper warwicks I've played just didnt fancy me in the tone department. Now when comparing a Streamer Stage II to a USA Spector, they're about equal as far as build/tone goes. The Warwick necks are far too chunky for me though.

I'd say the European Spectors can just about hold their own against the more top end Warwicks (I played a Euro once that papped all over the Warwick SS2 I've played). However, the USA Spectors really are the bees knees, but that isn't to say the custom Warwicks aren't as good (to be honest, there's so little difference between a Euro Spector and a USA one, that to say a Warwick is as good as a Euro, and nearly as good as a USA Spector, is no slight on Warwick)....

And yes, Warwick ripped off the NS bodyshape (they originally licensed it then decided they didn't have to pay the license anymore).

Spector had the design originally, but I personally prefer Warwick's far and away (and not just the Streamers, but those are my favorite). I just prefer the woods they use, the tone (both Spector and Warwick have a signature tone, and the 'Wick just works better for me and sounds better to my ears), playability (I for one love the thick necks of Warwicks), etc. In the end, only the shape is similar.

Spector works better for me, tone-wise, weight-wise and neck-wise.

I think at some point I had your German Corvette TechJunky, lol. It was too heavy for me. MEC pickups didn't mesh with my 'sound'. The neck bugged me - too bulky.

But, I like the sound of both Spectors and Warwicks. Spectors fit ME. Warwicks don't.
