spector

I dunno about spectors, but they fetch a fair bit more than Warwicks. In that range you'd probably have to look used. But u'll get maybe a better one for ur money. Even though were lucky being in europe as theyre made in the czech repulic i think.

If my conversion from pounds to dollars is sufficient enough, I'd say you could most definitely get a Rebop (euro bolt-on), or possibly even a euro LX neck-thru, new. Do not discount the quality of the Czech made products, they are just as good as the US made pieces, but with much lower cost attached.

The Czech neck-through models are, on average, £999 new (4-string) and £1099 (5-string) and apparently only available through Sound Control over here. The ReBops are great basses though, if you can find one cheaper - should be in your price range.

I dunno how the money conversion is, but the one in my avatar is for sale in the classifieds. Its a euro lx 5 and I'm looking for around $1000 for it...just a thought. As far as the quality, you can check the pics. The sound of them isn't for everyone (if you wan't thumpy warmth, look elsewhere), but the quality can't be beat.

Ebay is a great place to look for Czech Spectors in your price range whether it be the ReBop or Euro models. Do you know exactly what model Spector you're looking for? Here are a couple of auctions of different models on the bay right now.

I won my last Spector off Ebay (a nice blue Czech NS5-CRFM) for the equivalent of £400 from the US, but then you'll have to worry about the cost of shipping, then import tax, VAT and handling once it gets over here. I think there's a thread or two about this elsewhere on here with the exact figures, but the shipping was about $80, then I had to pay about £110 when it got here, in VAT and handling fees. It still only came to about £600 in total (within the budget here) but be prepared for the uncertainty of international shipping.

Might be worth checking out some of the other European eBays (ebay.de, ebay.fr, etc) and seeing if there's anything on there, as you won't have to worry about import tax or VAT that way.

I know its a little cheaper than what you want to spend but to give my 2cents, I love my spector performer and got a killer deal, i think they list for like $500 and i paid $200 new.

I have one that was nice and thumpy, and then I put an Aguilar OBP-3 in it with the same SSD EMG pickups, which turned it into a much more versatile bass. I respect those who say the Czech and US basses are better, but for the price, it sounds very, very good.
