Been watching more movies and playing some spooky games & music.

Let me deal you in.

Don't breathe movies, both the first one and the second.
Good stuff, I liked them a lot, both of those. I think the second one might be a bit better overall but I preferred the story of the first one a bit more. It was more contained.

For music, these guys.


And I just beat a new game, Scorn.
Was great. Loved almost every moment of it, except the combat. Tedious and got in the way of the world, but otherwise it was *chefs kiss*

I was thinking about getting into Scorn too. The production design itself is fantastic at least, but I don't know if my potato PC can handle it.

For me, Halloween season is the time of the year to get out my 8 and 16 bit Castlevanias and make yet another pitiful attempt at beating any one of them. I suck so bad.

I might try beating Dark Souls again, but I am also replaying Hollow Knight now before Silksong comes out. So no Castlevania for me

I got into consoles this generation. Got my xbox series x as they came out, was kinda lucky about it.
Took me a few weeks of practice to just get used to the controller. At the start, I couldn't aim correctly at anything after my entire life using a PC It was funny, frustrating... but I got it more or less nailed down by now.

Spooktober. The one month of the year when I feel truly alive. Ghosts. Skeletons. Annoying teenagers. Sometimes pumpkins. Wind which blows my hair into my eyes every time I go to my local grocery store. Falling autumn leaves.

You know the drill.

New years is too loud. Xmas is fake. The only thing you celebrste is the absurd Spooktober. Candy. Marshies. All things sweet.

What will you do this year? Any carving going on in your damp, moss covered cave?

We just got back from Disney in Florida. They know how to Halloween. The shows, lights, and decorations are pretty stellar.

Funny story. We had decided to go to the Halloween party at Magic Kingdom as party animals. The wife was a deer. 10 year old daughter was a cow. 13 year old daughter was going as a cat. And I went as a cheetah (basically matching shirt and shorts with cheetah print and some ears I found on Amazon). The big day came and my typical teenage daughter backed out. She was just "too cool" to wear a costume. Oh, well. I wasn't mad. She's a teenage girl, so I wasn't surprised.

Here's where it gets funny. I decided to participate anyway for my younger kid. But when we got to the park, the 13 year old wanted to ride a fast ride (and my wife doesn't do fast rides). So we get in the Space Mountain ride line. About 15 minutes into the wait, I realized I was a 51 year old guy in a cheetah outfit standing with a daughter who was NOT in a costume. Nutn weird about THAT....

But, yeah, I love Fall as well. I don't hate Christmas like you do. But I really like Fall holidays.

My partner picked up some spooky coffe for me, which is awesome in itself because she doesn't even like medium roast.

I was hoping to watch Don't Breathe at some point, so I'm glad you brought it up. One of the kids showed interest in the 1984 Ghostbusters movie, so that might be a fun 1st time watch for her.

I've succesfully baked two batches of cookies yesterday and the day before. Goopy, half done chocolate chip cookies with melted chocolate bits on the inside.

First batch was too done after 15 min in the oven. Second batch was better, at 12 min.

If I were to do it again, I would toss them in for 10.

I do not bake often enough to have this whole cookie business down.

You'll get the cookies down. There's plenty of times I've attempted to make something and it didn't turn out right. Just gotta keep trying

It's been a while, but I seem to recall that the "soft" and "goopy" recipes had a scientific way of getting the cookies that way and it wasn't really baking time. I think it was a certain quantity of vegetable oil PLUS a lot of butter...and then a fairly typical baking time (closer to 15 mins?) It depended on the size of the cookie.
I stopped making them because I kinda lost my sweet tooth after some medical treatments.

I miss baking. I used to love doing it - I even used to bake my dog's treats. All my recipes came from my gran, who for some reason always used huge-yield recipes even though she didn't have that many grandchildren...lol.

I have found the biggest predictor of how cookies come out is how soft the butter is when you put them in the oven. Softer butter = flatter, more brittle cookies.

The recipe I used called for melted butter, so thats what I did

Next time I need to bake a pie or some such. Maybe banana bread. Or a pecan pie. I made a pecan pie once and it was really good.

I played thru Dying Light a second time last year (PS4). My oldest daughter gifted me a Nintendo Switch, so am working thru Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

For those that like the Silent Hills games, just discovered there's about 3 or 4 in-work right now. Very cool, wife and I love this series, especially the earliest ones.

I'm post Scorn right now so I am looking for more bizzare/horror games to play in between work and woodshedding on my bass, so this was fun to read.

Fright Night from 1985 - that was one of the good movies I've seen recently. Never heard of it before but honestly, it was pretty damn good. Campy and obvious, for sure... But it had a really good and funny comedic spin to it. It wasn't trying to be serious or too dumb, it just let go and had fun with the premise that it sets out for from the beginning - vampires move in next door, what do!?

Also seen some other movies but they weren't that great. One was about how humans lost the ability to feel pain & are evolving rapidly with tumors & surgery is the new sex.

Beyond looking grungy and having some decent designs for props, it was a miss for me. It was made by David Cronenberg but imho Videodrome was better than this. Different messages etc I know, but I did not like it as much. Too pretentious perhaps. Too shallow.

"Fright Night" (1985) is very good. Pair it with "The Lost Boys" (1987) for a fun Halloween double-feature.

Good choices. Throw in a couple of "House" movies from that era (first one 1986, comedy horror) and we got the makings of an all nighter LOL.

I'm much more of a Christmas music guy, but since this is the Halloween season I thought I'd try something different and compose a little spooky mood music. I call it "Dread."

This is our first year with a house vs. an apartment. We just moved in a few months ago, so we didn't want to go too crazy right off the bat. We don't even have an idea of how many trick-or-treaters we'll get. My wife carved the pumpkin (and roasted the seeds--delicious).
