Squier 5 string Pbass pu recommendation

I have Fender American pups in my Squier P5 but i’m strongly considering getting a pair of barts

I really like my aguilar 5p-60 pickups in my Lakland.

Careful of the Bill Lawrence. The pole pieces might overlap on your A string and make it impossible to get an even sound.

No need for concern, that's not how pole pieces work: the magnetic field is continuous.

There may be routing needed though, since the BL design has two equal sized housing pieces.

I'm currently modifying my American Standard Jazz V to drop one of these in. Your running the aguilar PJ setup? Or is it just the 60's P? I dunno if I want the HC Jazz bridge or the 60's Jazz bridge.

Just the 60's p. It's a really full and smooth pickup. Hard to compare to the original Lakland pickup because the Lakland pups had died but I'm really happy with the Aguilar.

It has to do with the bass having routing that fits a traditional p pickup, but it is expected that pickups will follow a 3 + 2 pattern.

Interesting.

My only experience with that pickup is on a four string P, and the response was more even than any other P bass I've ever played; I didn't even notice the odd number of pole pieces at first.

Do Fender sell their 5 string P pickup as an aftermarket item?

I put American Standard P5 pickups in the VMP5 I had . I had to file a little off one side of the pickguard to make one side fit but it is pretty much a direct replacement . Others in the thread for the Vintage Modified P Bass 5 had no problems like mine . The Fender pickups didn't make a real big difference in the tone , the originals sounded pretty good to me too . I sold mine but here is a pic with the Fender pickups . Some people had good luck with Nordstrands too .

sorry to bump this old thread, but I was wondering if the bridge you have on the bass pictured was a direct replacement and if so where did you get it?

I think this is the one .BB-509C High-Mass Chrome 5-String Bass Bridge (6-Hole Mount)

You will have to drill new holes and the spacing is a touch wider at 19mm instead of 18mm but it worked great and doesn't cost an arm and leg .
