Squier Affinity Club

I guess I better join this club. Here's a photo of my 2005 Chinese made Affinity P-Bass that I bought used for $50 (including a stand, cable, tuner and gig bag), alongside its more expensive sibling, an MIM Precision.
I love my Affinity and describe it as a free bass I got for buying $50 worth of accesories. It is my kick-around and backup bass. I learned how to do setups on it and then transferred those skills over to more expensive basses. It sits out on its stand all the time and is ready and eager to be picked up at any moment. It stays in tune and is as solid as a rock. It is truly a 'don't give it a second thought' instrument.
It's also my backup. If the MIM went down, I'd use the Affinity in a heartbeat. In fact I have used it at rehearsals and received comments on how good it sounds. I have total faith in it.
While it is neither my best playing or sounding bass, it is very solid in both regards, probably my favorite and gets more overall use than any of the others.

I have a Squier Affinity P-Bass that has been a good bass! My only grumble was the pickups that were in it. I have since only changed two things on my Affinity... the pickguard and the pickups to Fender '62's.

I came across a used Affinity P-bass in the local shop for 100 bucks. Good deal or no? It seems to be in good shape. The pickup closer to the bridge is a bit loose but otherwise seems fine.

Loose p'up - or one that rocks a little just means the foam is dying and it's a super easy fix without soldering or brain surgery.

That's not a disqualifier at all.

$100 seems about right if the truss rod adjusts and there aren't any divots in the body or neck.

Don't sweat fret sprout if it has it and of course, the biggest part to consider is the neck. Some are absolute pearls among swine and they totally make the bass a great value.

Got my black And white p bass for under 50 USD in a pawn shop and could not be happier yeah I want to upgrade at some point but the squire is doing just fine I also threw some flats and the Old chrome covers on it, I think it plays better then a 50 dolled bass so I'm good with that

$100 for a Squier Affinity isnt bad at all. I would jump on that if I were you, as for the pick up, just follow up on what SurferJoe46 said and you should be golden

I'm not going to say $100 is a bad deal at all but I can tell you that used Affinities can regularly be had for well under that ($70-$80) at your local GC.

Just a quick update btw. New pots and .047 caps and Triumph logo for both. Black on black got the matching headstock, Gibson style knobs and a set of fender flats. Black n tort got a nice used set of chromes and jazz knobs. Pickups remain stock for now with no real plans to change them. Contrary to what I said about not gigging these basses they have both been on stage and performed admirably.

I played 2 gigs on the weeked using my MIM P/J (SD Pups) and it was great sounding but yesterday I got out my Affinity Jazz 5 and it is better.

I picked up an '03 Indonesia made Affinity P not too long ago and have been learning slowly. I'm new to bass and music in general. I've always wanted to try to learn the bass, so here I am, trying. It's basic black with a white PG. It seems pretty decent to my untrained ears, although it does have a scratchy pot and some small rust spots on the strings. I'm planning on replacing the strings with Fender 7250ML's.

I bought my metallic blue made in china P-Bass yesterday. Paid extra for a blue one, bought used. Just beautiful IMO. Reminds me of a 60's muscle car. Big, bold and powerful if a little rough around the edges. I love it.

Just added another affinity squier to my stable. This one is a shorty that I picked up used on CL. I've got a hot rails pickup to drop in and I'm planning on re-spraying it in a vintage white /cream. I might even take a crack at making a gold anno pickguard sometime down the road. Anyway, here's what she looks like now.

Here's mine. CL find for $65. I've done to refinishes on it. Plays great, sounds great. Splits time with my SX Jazz.

Almost forgot, I put a hipshot detuner on my black/tort p yesterday too... There's a pic of the front a few posts up so here's one of the back. The A string tuner required a little trimming for the new hardware to fit, no big deal.
