Squier Bronco Fantasy Mod

GFS Guitar Pickups

These guys have quite a few single coil and lipstick style pups that should fit in the single coil space with no (or very simple) mods. Seems quite a few people have used something from here

Well i got no problem with bigger mods on the PG cause i´ll be putting a tort instead of the white one. so the cavity for the pup is not a problem.

I feel a bit curious about the mustang pups and would like to now if someone had his bronco "mustangized".

love to hear & see some samples.

I just picked up a Bronco and looking to do a little modding. After a quick setup it plays good so now I am looking at pickups.

I have an idea and or question. I see that some people have used the "blade" or "rail" strat style pickups as many will slip in with minimal work. I am wondering if there would be any advantage to using a full size rail humbucker and possibly adding a selector switch as if it were two seperate pickups. Any thoughts or has anyone already tried this?

Also does anyone know what the ohms on the stock pickups might be??

I picked up a Bronco a couple weeks ago. Love the one piece maple neck! Can't get with the single coil hum (even though it almost goes away with the tone mostly rolled off where I like it.)

Couple things in the works:
GFS Lil Killer pickup (Vintage, Creme)
Shortscale Chromes
Dunlop straplocks

Contemplating:
250 Pots / .47cap / Switchcraft Jack
Refinish - Capri Orange or Surf Green
Bridge - only if having intonation issues

I am working on my Bronco, new pickup came today and I have the pickguard ready. Now for some shielding and hopefully the new pots and knobs show up tomorrow.

BTW to answer my own question above. The stock pickup measured 5.27K.

While i´m waiting for my bronco`s new bridge and pups to arrive I´ll been doing some thinking. As the plastic red finish/ white pg is not my favourite combination and inspired by this 211dave112´s post:

I came up with some crappy photoshoping of possible mods to my bronco:

broncomod.jpg

1st one is Gibson´s worn cherry + black pg
2nd is Gibson Heritage cherry + black pg
3rd is a shameless steal of 211dave112's gorgeous bass + tort PG

imagine them with a mustang pup and a musicmaster bridge plus amber speed knobs or jazz knobs

Here is a pic of my Bronco. I installed a blade humbucker with a push pull to split, a new Fender tone pot and fully shielded everything. Of all my basses, this is my favorite sounding. I really like the humbucker and with the shielding it is dead quiet.

One of my modded Broncos: Mustang neck and control plate, modded Bronco 'guard, jaz Bass knobs, Gotoh 350 Res-O-Lite tuners, modded EMG SA pickup, Musicmaster bridge modded for top loading, upper horn extension for better balance, body modded with front and back contours.

Another one: similar to above but with Hipshot ultralight tuners and contact paper over the guard.

I call them my Squender Mustoncos.

Here's mine, just finished it a couple of weeks ago. I am REALLY happy with it.

It's got two Strat blade humbuckers (9K ohm range), with series/parallel switch for each pickup, Squier Musicmaster bridge, Tusq nut (gotta use a P bass nut and file it a little), side jack, new pots and cap, tuners (gotta drill out), Radio Shack knobs and a pickguard from Roger @ Jeannie's.

It's just about all I'm playing now and I like it so well that I've ordered another short scale (Stagg Fusion 3/4) to mod as well.
