Squier Classic Vibe 2019

A few folk have suggested I should restring it as they're hearing something, especially on the E string. I'd already picked up a new set of D'Addario XL's at the store today but they were for my Wal! Check the pics out in the Wal Bass club thread.

No, you don't have to restring it, just apply pressure to these 4 points on your E string: post and pre nut (near headstock) and post and pre bridge saddle. Then retune the string. It should be fine!

Cool! I'll give that a go. So the string just need 'bedding in' on its bearing surfaces? I've noticed in one of the pics that the slot for the E string in the nut isn't finished very well. Another little QC niggle

Exactly, so that the string "breaks in". The E string being the "thicker", its core doesn't have a perfect contact with the saddle and the nut when the string is brand new, and/or newly installed. Doing this helps to break the string in! No worries about damaging anything. Thank you again for your pictures ;)

Great advice! I've been playing since I was 15 but if no one ever tells you these things!

Ps you're welcome!

@bunker I would suggest (after listening to the clips) return the CV and throw a few extra $$ with it and get a Player Jazz or P bass. Those two are awesome.

But if you do decide to keep this one definitely change out the strings at least. To me they sounded brittle and harsh. What I have to do with my VM jazz is play with the tone turned down by about a 1/4

I've been playing it toady and yeah, I've found rolling the tone back by about 1/3 gives better results. Those .wavs were just thrown down quickly; the more I've played, the more I've re-found my J bass playing style if you like so I can control the tone more with my dynamics

I’m happy you are starting to like it! Lots of times I find just a simple tweak can make the difference between a bass being a piece of :poop: to being your #1

I can’t wait to get one in my hands, but they are just on pre order here so I have to wait

Tell the truth I really think that the strings might be the major detramant here! They just sound zingy! Other than that sounds like it might be a keeper. I know I wish I had a bass under 7lbs

Maybe theres a bit of retail drama going on? My local stores were showing pre-order only yesterday on their websites. I went into one today to compare mine with other Squier ranges and found several 2019 models? (but no VM's or even affinities out on the floor..odd?) Maybe your store will get them in sooner rather than later:thumbsup:

Its a keeper. I've played it enough today to realise that.

… just for reference, in case you need to describe it again or if you come across it in your reading, it is referred to 'setting your witness points' … it also comes into play if intonation tends to be tough to set and stay or if it is kind of all over the place … after you re-tune, check intonation as well … I like to set witness points every time I check intonation …

Its a gorgeous neck, just like my CIC CV's. My strat has a similar dark spot near one of the fret ends...looks like it just needs wiping off!

I'm finding myself less and less bothered by the little mark on the headstock, in fact, I'm starting to really dig it! It adds so much character to the bass, almost in the way a road worn bass or original vintage bass feel, I'm a big fan! Really cool actually, I wouldn't mind if I had one on my future jazz.

Also I'm really hoping to see a CV70's in 3TS! If anyone's got one, or gets one, please share I would love to take a peek at it!

Is anyone going to start a Classic Vibe Squier club? Or is there a pre existing classic vibe or general squier bass club? If so can someone please direct me (post a link) I might have to join very soon...

Yeah, they were wound out a bit so I just screwed them all down until the were snug. No big deal. Same as the loose knob. Its just those little QC things; maybe a new production line or similar? These are the first out of the door so to speak. Glad to hear thats normal behaviour re phase cancellation; if thats what J's do then thats cool!

The knob feels like its damaged or a second. Its a lot stiffer than the others over most of its range but frees up toward the bottom end. No crackling etc, just mechanical feel. The others are silky smooth but with a decent amount of resistance and a really nice feel.

Edit - The pot was the protective foil fouling on the knob. All sorted!
Brilliant! I love it when a problem turns out to be something simple like that.

Right so. Strings broken in a bit more, action adjusted, intonation tweaked and she's playing like a gem!

So good to read this!

anyone picked up a 3TS jazz bass or p bass yet? I'm interested to see how well Squier does the sunburst. Often on cheaper instruments it doesn't turn out that nice.

@bunker @RogueOne41 What are your pickgaurds like by the way, are they the same dimensions as a fender one, can you buy another pickgaurd or do you have to get one custom made?

They had a 3TS in the store over the weekend. I didn't do any in-depth analysis but I liked good to my eye. Different factory and era but the sunburst finish on my CIC CVC Tele is amazing. Looks like you could just dive into it! Regarding the pickguard. I don't have another Fender (or Squier) 'guard to compare it to? I've a very vague recollection of reading that the CV guitars use the same dimension 'guard as the Fender's (and different to the other Squiers) but I've slept since then! Wouldn't mind seeing what a tort 'guard would look like on mine although I really dig the blacked out look. Are there any giveaways? Size? number of holes etc? I'm happy to grab some measurements when I get home this evening

I'm not too sure myself I was just wondering if anyone else new. Don't forget new CV's new factory so even if the old CV's were Fender shape pickgaurds doesn't mean these are. I would love a white pearloid pickgaurd on a black 70s jazz!
But I don't know if I can just buy one or If I have to get one custom made

I'm nearly sure that the new CV pickguard will be compatible :)
