Squier Classic Vibe 2019

Might be worth sourcing one and finding out. From memory the CVC has less holes (presumably as a nod to the original it's based on).

Edit - I just had a look on Amazon... £61 for an official Fender item!! They know how to keep you poor!!

What do you mean by "CVC" ? My Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass from 2011 has a swapped pickguard, from a "US compatible" one and all holes aligned perfectly!

Sorry. Classic Vibe Custom. It was a model of Telecaster Squier had out. 3TS double bound body with mint pickguard. My only other points of reference, CV-wise, are my CVC Tele and a 50's CV Strat in Mary Kaye colours.

The MK is so cool!

Yeah, cheers man! They weren't out for long and I managed to get one new. In the guitar world Squier do this a lot; they change the colour ways of the CV Strats fairly regularly and only keep a few models unchanged. They did a sand coloured strat with anodised gold pick guard for a short while and that looked awesome as well as an Inca gold one, sherwood green etc. etc.

A couple of sort of comparison shots. The tint on the CV J is noticeably lighter than that of my CIC CV guitars. Did the CIC CV basses have this darker tint too? I've seen pics of VM's that look to have a really light colour, almost natural but then I've seen VM's listed as having a vintage tint gloss although they always looked lighter than the CV vintage tint. It's got me wondering if they're reusing the VM neck but with alternate colour blocks and binding? I'm guessing the VM 70's J is made in the same factory?

Me want!!!! Have you tried to detach the neck yet, to see what kind of wood is used for the body? It is UNCLEAR from Fender themselves! Some websites say Poplar, some say Light Maple. The natural one should have Light Maple because Poplar isn't a very sexy wood grain. But it's not bad, cause it's lighter

I'm not planning on taking the neck off, at least not until it need re-stringing. I've done some research myself and I'm minded to go with the Squier website description of it being poplar. Its a very light body.

My CIC CV basses (CV50+CV70) both have a MUCH darker tint than my VM Jazz V (or any other VM I've seen). CV50 is the darkest, CV70 is more middle of the road. Judging by the photos the new CVs seem to have a very light (or no) tint, comparable to VM.

I am trying to deciding whether to get a CV70s jazz or save up my money for a mexican geddy sig. I understand the Geddy might be a bit better quality, but is it worth it, or should I just jump in and get this if I try it out and I'm happy with it instead. Big price difference is it really worth it? Both 70s style. Same colours. So the Geddy has the bonus of a (apparently) better build, american pickups and a high mass bridge. The squier has the bonus of price, narrow tall frets, bone nut, both have 70s spacing. Squier has pickups designed in house by Fender (according to squier the whole bass is designed by Fender, but it's built in indonesia) So I'm not sure. I guess it is down to what I think and is it worth it when trying and comparing both in the shop. Shouldn't be long now, they expect about mid april.

Shops around me don't plan on having them in stock. They can order if I buy but not before that. What's the point of retail stores already??? :(
Do they still have previous models in stock? Might be reluctant to add more relatively slow moving items into the inventory. I'm watching a shop nearby out of curiosity but haven't asked them. Still not listed at their site but they seem to often leave it till the product is actually in stock.

Get the Squier unless you can find a used GLJ for comparable cost. Judging from my experience with Squiers over the past 20 years or so, you'll be surprised how nice they are and how much you like them. If you can compare them in a store or try a friends do it. You might end up liking the Squier as much or even more.

I have two VM 70s jazz basses and contemplating on a third! They are awesome
