Squier Classic Vibe 2019

I have an older VM Jazz lefty that I’m pretty happy with. How do you like the hardware on your CV?

Pics?

It's about what I expected. Tuners seem okay, need to wait until the new strings break in before I can comment on their ability to stay in tune. Vol and tone pots function smoothly, pups sounds good, great output but bridge pup is sitting a good few mm higher than the neck pup so will see how they sound once it's been properly set up.

As an interesting comparison, I also have a Cort Action DLX Plus which I picked up last year (might be made in the same factory) and for about A$100 less, the finishing is actually better all-round which did surprise me a little.

Pics to follow once I get home from work!

Welcome to the club!

Thomann have updated their descriptions now to both show 32" and scale length is also now "mediumscale" (despite their assurance via email that they're 34"), so the evidence for them really being 32" is gettting stronger and stronger. I really hope they are 32", as I think that makes them quite unique in the Fender lineup. Assuming it is 32" I'm thinking of going with relatively thick flatwounds on mine when it eventually arrives.

Allrighty, then!!! I finally took delivery yesterday of my new CV Jaguar bass and it IS, in fact a 32" scale bass!! So glad. A very comfortable and easy-playing bass and with the AlNiCo pickups, sounds excellent! I will confess: I am ALWAYS bringing a different bass to band practice. The Boys don't even look at my basses anymore because I always bring a different one (I buy and sell them; even part them out on occasion). Well, as soon as I started playing it, everyone noticed how well it sounded. We play Billy Joel and Elton John tunes and this Jag can be tweaked quite nicely. Weighs in at 8lb 13oz. I can live with that.
I also have an Ibanez 32" Mezzo 5 string coming, whenever they arrive. Looking forward to it.

Some pics!

Aggree that my months old Cort action dlx V smoke out the new CV bass .
My peice come with great fret work, stable and comfort neck , nice paint job, clean cavity . Jotoba board look better than grey dull Indian Laurent board use on CV bass.

My 09’ cv and a my matt freeman. My MF is easily the best squier ive ever played right behind it is the CV. Whats the short and sweet on the new cv’s? I do see the price dropping on the originals on reverb :smug:

Suggest you get one of new CV pbass ans experience with it.
I own Pre china CV, to me, the new CV just rebranding VM bass.

Jealous that you have a nice MF pbsss..

I have a VM P5, and placed an order for a new black CV 70's Jazz Bass V that weighs 8 lbs 11 oz. Should arrive later this week.

Currently sporting Sadowsky Blue Label Flatwound light gauge on the P5. I will put DR Low Riders on the Jazz.

True, but I do believe they have stepped up the QC on the new CV’s. I have played 4 different CV Jazz 4’s and they all have been superb. I just played one about an hour ago, and it felt and sounded really, really, really nice...!!!
(Even with its slightly less-than-horrible setup)

Hi,

I'm new here on this Forum and I live in The Netherlands

This week I bought blind, after weeks of investigation, the 2019 Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass with help of this great Talkbass thread!

My first impression after unboxing is very good.
The 3-Tone Sunburst painting looks better than I expected

First thing what I always do is disambling the whole guitar for a deep inspection and, if needed, some upgrades.

This is my report;
- Quality of these classic open tuners are not bad.
I lubricate these tuners with PTFE (Teflon) spray because they were dry.
- Neck is nice and straight!
No sharp edges on the end of the frets.
Trussrod with the 4mm Allen Nut works smooth without cracking noises.
- Yes indeed, the Indian Laural Fingerboard is dry and have a pale appearance!
I treaded the fingerboard 4 times with Walnut Oil and now it have a nice dark look.
- Nut is not made of natural bone!
Think it's made of Nylon or Teflon.
- The bridge is a cheap lighweight "AliExpress" part!
Love bridges with brass saddles and i'm going replace it for a Wilkinson WBBC-4 bridge.
- The PU is excellent.
Measured the DC resistance and the value is 10,8k :)
That's very good value for a Precision Bass!
(For example; I owned a 1992 MIJ Squier Precision Bass and the value of the PU was a poor 8,4k. The output was low and the sound was (of course) thin).
- The wirings and solderings are ok.
- The brandless green capacitor with code 2A503J (.050uf) is being replaced for a Sprague Orange Drop capacitor .047uf.
- Pots are good and turning smooth.
- Output Jack is low quality and is being replaced for a Switchcraft.
- There was a lot of sawdust in the cavity hole!
- The 4-ply Tortoise Pickguard looks nice and is a good quality product.
- Strings are from a unknown brand NPS (Nickel Plated Steel).
I prefer stainless steel roundwound strings and i'm going replaced it for the Rotosound 66 Swing Bass strings.

To give this '60 PB an authentic look i'm going to dress up the bass with the original Fender Bridge and PU Covers and Thumbrest ;)

Just as I was about to buy Low Riders!!! If you could record something, that would be so good for me!!

I have always used Low Riders. One day I got a wild hair and put Sadowsky Blue Label Flatwound Lights on my VMP5 taking the Low Riders off. Now that I have the CVJ5 the Low Riders have a home again. VMP5 with flats, CVJ5 with rounds (Low Riders).

Just do it! You won't regret it! Seriously!!!

At this moment i'm busy with modifying of my brand new Squier CV '60 Precision Bass.

The connection of the bass with the amplifier was very bad.
Cracking noises and fall out of the signal.
I discovered that the green (shielded) cable from Volume pot to Outpack Jack made a short circuit (see picture 1).
I replace the cable with 2 seperated clothed wires, replace the Output Jack for Switchcraft and replace the green cap for an Sprague "Orange drop" 0.047 uF (see picture 2).

The PU-foam is to weak and to small for adjusting the PU at the right spring height.
I added an extra foam strip and now the PU adjustment works good (see picture 3).

So now I have a VMP5 and a CVJ5. I'm liking 'em alot!
I meant to pose this question earlier and this reminded me to ask;

Does FMIC…or for that matter, any other mass manufacturer…produce five-stringers that have '70s-style pickup placement like the CV '70s Jazz V?

I'm sure Warmoth and other custom shops can cut them to that specification. Also, I wouldn't be surprised if the Sire V7 Vintage fiver has it, but I can't think of any other models that has that particular twist of engineering.

The Sire V7 vintage indeed has the 70s position. Warmoth offers that option at the cost of a price that is unacceptable, to me! Fender doesn't offer 70s bass with 5 string. In the past, there was the Marcus Miller model.
