Squier Classic Vibe 2019

"I got it at Music Go Round in Bradenton Fl. It's used (dude said he took it in on trade) and it also had a b-stock serial number sticker over the partially scratched of regular serial number"

What!? I need to visit this place. I just moved to Sarasota a couple months ago but because of COVID I havent gone out and explored. I really need to. Any other music stores you recommend?

It's a CV 60s and from the little I can find, it's either Aztec gold or golden bronze.

I Just saw the original posting on the Music Go Round site. Yours is the only one in existence in that color from what I can tell. That thing is gorgeous. Congrats on a killer score!

I actually live in Tampa and made the trip to Bradenton for the bass.
If you're ever in Tampa you should check out Replay Music.

I want to remove the knobs on my 2019 70s Squier CV j bass. The 1.5mm Allen key is too small then the 2mm is too big and I have nothing in between the two sizes. Anyone know what size Allen key/wrench I need to remove the j bass knobs? And are these split shaft pots on these new classic vibes? Because the knobs are tightened with set screws. I’d imagine they would be solid shaft pots then.

They are solid shaft pots. I struggled to removed my knobs because they used cheap screws and the head of the Allen key slot gets damaged easily. I don't know which size I used, but once you can get them off, get some All parts replacement with a flat head screwdriver slot!
Funny you asked now. I removed mine 2 days ago. What I did is that I bent my Allen key in order to have a better grip to unscrew these small low quality screws.

I used a t6 screwdriver instead of an allen and that fitted perfectly.

These are awesome. Pictures will be required, please.

Hey long time no see ! So my purchase didn't work out so I've found these babies :

The P Bass on the left is new indonesian CV, and on the right is older chinese CV J bass

The J bass feels like a more quality instrument

The previous owner of the P bass did change the cts pots, and put a new high-mass bridge "for a brighter and punchier sound". Actually the pots don't turn smoothly and seem badly installed. Can you share a ressource to help me fix this?

I'm planning to get some flatwounds for both of them, or possibly the ken smith slick rounds for the J bass. I've seen Jerry Jemmott favouring those recently, although when I hear string comparisons I always hear the Labella Flats as "the sound". The TI flats came close but I really dig these Labella.

Now trying to decide for a gauge... or maybe the low tension model. How big a difference is it playing lights vs low tension?

Switch back to Alpha pots. Better than CTS

Does anyone know the gauge of strings that come on the CV 70 pbass? I was looking at some la bella deep talking heavy flats and my bass is setup with whatever came standard on the bass. Hoping for an easy no fuss transition? Think I should go for mediums?

The stock strings would be 45-105 according to Fender.com, which is considerably lighter than medium (760FM) la bellas at 49-109 - you’d probably need the nut slots filed a bit bigger to accommodate those strings, unless the nut was generously cut to begin with. You’d of course need to do a ‘regular’ setup (truss rod, string height, pickup height, intonation) even if you chose a lighter gauge.

If you want an easy transition: No. I would go with the 43-104 LaBellas instead (760FL). The will still feel slightly heavier than the stock Fender roundwounds and are a very popular gauge for LaBellas. They feel just right IMO. I know LaBella call them "light" but that's just compared to other LaBella gauges. Compared to standard roundwound strings they feel more like "medium". Even the LaBella "standard" 45-105 set is on the heavy side for me. The 43-104 set also feels better balanced to me and somehow sounds nicer too (just my personal opinion of course).

49-109 LaBellas are VERY high tension and stiff. Unless you've already tried them and know 100% that you really want this extremely heavy gauge you will probably find the transition more difficult. Again: I know LaBella label these as "medium" but these are HEAVY+ gauge strings when comparing them to practically anything else. With standard roundwounds you would probably have to be around 55-115 for a similarly heavy feel (that's just an estimate though, I've never actually ever used THAT heavy roundwounds on a 4-string bass).

Like Fun Size Nick mentioned you will most likely also have to file the nut slots for 49-109. This won't be necessary with 43-104.

You will still need to do a standard setup though: Truss rod/relief, action and intonation. But with 49-109 you will have to do much more extreme truss rod adjustments and they will put a lot more strain on the neck. To be honest I'm not sure I would be comfortable putting such heavy gauge strings on the relatively slim neck on those CV70s.

YMMV of course.

If you used the allen wrench included with the bass maybe it was slightly the wrong size? This often seems to be the case with Squiers and Fenders. At least I've experienced it with several Squiers, an AmPro P-bass and an Ultra P-bass. Slightly wrong size allen wrench can damage the screws very easily, especially with these small ones.

No, it gets damaged because we live in a world of poopie consumption where we prefer to manufacturer 100000 poopy chromed screws instead of 1000 GREAT solid nickel screws. If your tool is unadapted and you rip, if the screw is solid enough, it won't be damaged.

Yeah, that too of course.:(

Sorry if my message was a bit dry, it was nothing against you at all. It's just that I'm sad when I see things that get damaged too easily because we are rushing manufacturing of everything now... quantity over quality. For instance, the neck screws with the chrome plate... I hate when they cheap out them and put chrome screws instead of nickel screws. It really makes a difference when tightening them. My screwdriver ripped on my previous chrome screws and the head was mashed in one mistake. I had to buy nickel screws and everything was fine... but what do I do with the poopie screws? I waste them... :(
