Squier describes it as a (Thick "C" Shape) and it is considerably thicker than my Jazz, the Jazz neck feels quite thin after playing the P.

The nut is only slightly wider than the Jazz, so that helps. I think it plays great.

The Precision Bass ’50s Butterscotch Blonde is finally hitting all the online stores, *and* the Squier site! There its says *pine* with gloss polyester finish for the body (vs. basswood for the LPB), and brass saddles (vs. chromed brass saddles on the LPB).

I wouldn't be surprised if it seduced many more bassists than Fender's anniversary model. Many. :bassist:

I believe the *Pine* would mostly attract the more seasoned players looking for a classic styled bass without spending a lot of money. When I bought mine in LPB, the salesman said it was so clean because the kids don't like these, they have to be black and pointy for them.

now La Bella Deep Talkin' BASS stainless steel flatwound 760FM
.049 .069 .089 .109 on this bass sits so right! I love these strings with this bass! Chromes are just too bright right out the bag & they are really slippery these La Bella's are have just a little bit more grip then chromes plus have a super deep tight low end LOVE IT!

Just a heads up. I don't play bass (yet) but I wanted to get one and all my research led me to a CV 60's P. Did a dealer search on the Squier site, up popped a couple of Best Buys. I didn't even know BB sold instruments. I called and they told me a few of their stores have music instrument departments and that they were having a sale on the P bass. Turns out they are going to discontinue stocking the 60's P bass, they will still have the 51 and Jazz. All the other CV stuff was at the normal price and will continue to be, but the 60's P basses were $263.99. Everyone else in the valley was $350. They only had Sonic Blue at the two stores I visited (Tempe Marketplace in Tempe (AZ) and Fiesta Mall in Mesa. I played three (all really similar) and bought mine at Tempe Market Place from Bill (a former manager at the GC in Tempe). I don't know if this deal is nationwide, but at least in the Phoenix area it it is available. Out the door with tax dfor $288.54 (plus I got a $15 gift card) so that put me under $275.

Probably asked a hundred times, but will a stock Fender tortoise pickguard fit on a CV 60's P bass?

I put a black HWY 1 mexico pickguard on mine fit fine

I can't tell you, best bet would be to call a BB close to you. I called the BB at Tempe Market Place, the sales guy told me about the sale. It may only be an "instore" deal and not shown on their website. And, as I said, it may not be nationwide. It's sure worth a call though!

Hah, that's pretty cool. The Mars Volta guy tries a CV based on Reggie Hamilton's recommendation and loves it.

Alderete was at a bass convention when he ran into Reggie Hamilton, who told him he had to check out the newest line of Squier basses...

“I picked it up and looked at Reggie and I was like, ‘F–k, this thing is awesome!’” Alderete shared. “Fender offered to send me one, but I said, ‘No, I’ve got to own this particular one,’ because I’ve got to play basses before I buy them.​

Of course, the really cool thing is that this is totally unsurprising. When you write about the CVs you almost have to choose your words carefully to avoid giving the impression that you're overstating things. But the fact is that they are truly special. They have crossed into new territory. They've changed the kind of expectations we can have about bargain priced import basses. The closest thing would be the JV Squiers of a quarter century ago, but those were more expensive than the CVs, weren't they?

Here is the Sonic Blue 60's Precision Bass I ordered from Best Buy, it's really hard for me to get a accurate color in pictures but everyone knows what the Sonic Blue looks like on these:
