Bassagent, that is a real nice tone you get there. You using flats? Chromes? Also any compression (its hard to tell as youtube compresses the hell out of evrything)?

I have to credit Evil Undead for that. Its the original sprayed matt black. MAtt black looks far cooler than the normal shiny black.
I'm the previous owner (I'm sure Mr Transaxle won't mind me saying) - the pickguard is the original white slab of plastic that I just sprayed over with some matt black enamel from a spray can

Picked up a BB 50's on Friday and slapped on some old Labella flats. Played it at band practice last night and it did great! Almost as nice as my 57 AV RI P, honestly. My natural instinct is to upgrade tuners, pots, bridge, and pickup. Not that they are needed really, but just because I can't leave well enough alone usually..
Bridge will be first.. Will a vintage style fender bridge holes match up? Anyone throw in a Lollar, Fralin, or SD? Tuner holes line up with vintage style tuners?
Its an awesome bass as is! But I bet $200 in upgrades would make this bass a main player for me. Are the 60's CV's as good? I've always wanted a Sonic Blue P!

The Sonic Blue 60's CV P is quite in demand since Squier reduced the color choice to Fiesta Red only!
I changed mine to Hipshot Ultralites just to take some weight off of the headstock. The stock tuners were fine though.

If you're talking CV 50's precision, I can't recommend Lindy Fralin's split-coil version highly enough. The stock pickup is good, but to satisfy my curious ears, I put a Lollar in mine. Better, but I still wasn't happy with the E. Then I took a cue from JohnK and tried the Fralin split-coil. Better bass, more mid punch, with a little less on the high end. The poles for the A and D strings are raised a bit for better balance. Same SCPB vibe only better IMO.
I have a Lollar in my CV 60's that is NOT getting switched out.

Has anyone stripped the decal off the pegface? Is it silkscreened or a waterslide decal?
How deep into the finish is the decal?
I want to take the decal off my CV p bass, but I don't want to sand through the tint...as matching it would be a hassle....

It looks like it's all the way under the finish to me. I agree, I think it wouldn't be an easy thing to do.
Dang....I was hoping it to be half way, so as not to get to the wood.

If you look closely at the sonic blue precision in the pic below, you might notice the logo is a bit different than the others.
My curiosity got the best of me and I took some steel wool to it....not deep enough. Then I started sanding. Hours later the logo came off when I hit bare untinted wood. On the plus side...I learned to do a vintage tint refin with reranch nitro, but it was way more work than it's worth just to have the bass look "right" to me. Also the string tree is too far towards the end of the headstock and interferes with proper logo placement.

hit me up! heheI think I'll get all the material first, probably going for stew mac nitro, a tinted one and a clear gloss one...I already have the decals shipped...and I'll get the sandpaper ready.
I'm considering giving a CV as a gift, & my guess is the 60s P model would be a good all-around bass. Which of the CV series would you recommend?
