I thought I’d ask this group before I post a for sale ad.
I have a CV late 60’s Jazz that I bought on Labor Day special. If you are near Westchester County, NY, I’d sell it for what it was on sale for. Not too interested in shipping such an inexpensive bass, maybe it would be better to remove the neck so the box is smaller. No mods, barely played, I put flats on it but I will install the factory strings and keep my flats.
Anyway, hit me up if you’re local.

Yo I have been keeping an eye out for white CIC J for a really long time but I swore I would never buy from GC ever again, they have sent me two wrong basses over the years and reneged on another bass purchase saying it would cost an extra $50 over advertised S/H.Heads up, y'all! Guitar Center has a first generation Classic Vibe '60s Jazz with a black pickguard mislabeled as a Vintage Modified Jazz for a scant $270!

I understand, but you could always call the store and ask for additional pics to verify it is what's advertised. Just sayin'...

Luckily I got a good one, actually was shocked how good it was right out of the box
Aside from shipping damage, no reports of duds for the paranormal jazz (CiC, likely a different Asian factory from the regular Squier J's and P's). If you are looking for a great inexpensive Squier Jazz, and don't mind stacked pots (I actually prefer VVT because the two tones become non-independent with both pickups dimed, which is how I usually play) there's you bass.

Looks like this bass made a reappearance. Probably not a good sign but still a great deal on a Chinese Jazz Bass

Noticed that, been lookin for an Olympic White CIC J (that ones not gonna cut it).
Still kickin myself on a local one I passed up, the hardware was pitted but the body/neck was stellar! I couldn’t see past it at the time, a missed opportunity.

Good basses. I had a 2008 I sold a few years ago and eventually regretted it 'til I replaced it with the one I bought during that Fender 50% off blow out on Labor Day weekend. The new version doesn't appear to be all that much different than the CIC version as far as the bones go. The bridge and pickups are upgraded again just as they were on the 2008 so other than the difference in finish they both seem quite similar to me. I wouldn't shy away from the new ones either.
Is that hokey red plastic claw really necessary?
So question number one Mr. Lobster. How much did the 60s Jazz cost you? If it was part of those sold around Labor Day they sold for around $240 so essentially wholesale price. I didn't mind saving $240 and spending on hour doing the fret ends. The rest had zero cosmetic issue and I planned to replace the pickups and bridge anyway and also replaced the electronics while I was at since eventually they'll need it. My 2008 CIC did as well.
I won't deny that the CIC builds have always been better than the Indonesian builds but to be honest I don't hear a whole lot of difference between the two played fingerstyle. The differences become more apparent with a pick possibly attributable to lower output pickups or maybe the strings???? The Paranormal is certainly brighter and more transparent sounding which would also be apparent when played slap style. It's certainly more versatile.
What it comes down to is the '60s Jazz Bass sounds like what most any 60s Jazz Bass has always sounded like. I owned on long ago and they aren't exactly funk machines and never were. It's sounds like a vintage bass. The Paranormal sounds far more like a more modern Jazz Bass more like 70s Jazz Basses which where built more for funk. Good to have two choices especially when knowing about the QC differences between them.
