Don't get too enthusiastic and drill through the front of the headstock. Shallow pilot holes are fine. The screws should do the rest.

If you're in the U.S., or can get tuners made for that market, I would suggest you look at a set of Hipshot Licensed Ultralite tuners. One only needs to drill one hole and it will shave a noticeable amount of weight off your headstock.

I used a 1mm drill bit, and put a piece of masking tape on the drill bit to know when to stop drilling. You set the tape for a lenght less than the thickness of the headstock, of course.

If you are scared, better ask someone than to destroy a beautiful instrument!

This. I go one further and use a pin vise (hand held drill bit holder) to slowly drill the hole. Maple is soft, doesn’t take long at all and I can react to things before it’s too late.

That looks great. Here is what mine looks like now. I tried the pickup cover but it got in the way so I took it off. I earlier reported here that I changed the volume and tone as they weren't working well when I got it used on Reverb. And switched to a black PG. It's a '23. My only gripe is that it's heavier than I'd like. I used it for the last part of band practice last night and it sounded nice and vintage-ey.

Is ditching the bridge cover and switching out the tuners for some relatively inexpensive Hipshot Licensed Ultralites be a viable solution? Just a rough estimate, but that should drop it by about half a pound.

Yeah, I thought about that. It was heavy before I put the bridge cover on it! I might do it once I find the right lightweight tuners. Thanks for reminding me!

One of the bands I’m in we do a couple of tunes where I have to de-tune it to low D. I have hip shot D tuners on those other basses but the detuner is actually heavy! So I can’t seem to gain any ground on the weight. My other bases aren’t quite as heavy as this one.

It wouldn't be the first time "someone" (I ain't sayin' who ) has saved some bucks AND shaved off some weight by way of three licensed Ultralites and a USA Ultralite Xtender.

I have a question about the CV 70s Telecaster bass with the wide range pickup. Can a person swap the Telecaster neck for a Fender Precision neck? I have a road worn fender p bass neck that I'd like to attach to a telecaster style body. The Vintera Telecaster bass has a 3 screw pattern, so that one is not an option for me, while the CV version looks like a regular 4 screw one. Anyone swapped necks?

Despite all of my past tinkering, I've never done this kind of assembly. You might encounter this kinda-sorta-maybe-an-issue…

I know there’s a lot of “does it fit” talk with tele straight neck heels and rounded bodies/pickguards. I wanted to post my latest experience so that people understand why the answer is “kinda.” I also want to show people that this isn’t exactly rocket surgery, and pretty much anyone with some 80 grit and some time can make this transition look pretty decent.

The body was this Fender MIM body with mickey mouse neck pocket: Invalid Link Removed

if it helps....I put a CV70s P neck on a CV50's P body and I did run into the square / round heel issue. I think i routed the heel of the neck a little flatter and mounted it. May have even had a little fretboard hang over. Still not a perfect fit, but it aint going anywhere... Hard to remember and the bass is out of state with my son currently.

I’m back !! I missed having a PBass. I had the choice between the Fiesta Red which I used to favor because my very 1st bass was a wine red Mexican fender P . But I decided to go original run sonic blue this time. I think this maybe the 11h one I’ve owned. Still had my
Old TI flats . Feels and sounds just as good as I remember. The sonic blue has faded, it has a few relic looking spots. . Looks the part.

I’ve been traveling and extremely busy. It just dawned on me that my 2008 CV 60’s P is nearing vintage status. It’s held up quite well . Might not get to pics until things slow down next month .
