Squier CV 70's problem

I just received a CV 70's yesterday.... when I play it there is a really bad buzzing sound... it's not fret buzz and nothing seems to be loose.... it seems to start in the body but it runs through the neck... I can't see any cracks in it... when plugged in the bass sounds ok... when it's not plugged in it's quite annoying... the bass needs a setup but I don't think that's the problem... I'm going to have it looked at later today but I was wondering if you folks might be able to help... it was an open box item and I don't want to return it ... I just don't want to spend an arm and a leg to get it fixed... my other bass is a 2001 P and has never had an issue like this.... any help would be appreciated... thx

Try tightening all the bolts. Not a lot but make sure they're all as tight as they should be.

Make sure that the truss rod nut is snug. Sometimes T rods can rattle.

Generally either tuner paddle is loose or truss rod. Tuner paddles only need a minute amount of play to rattle, a tiny drop of loctite in the clover leaf to post joint is a good fix.

Problem solved... it was the tuning paddle on the A string... I was worried it was going to be a big deal... thx for the help

I've had weird "phantom buzz" of a non-fret-related sort before. Funny thing…the first time I encountered it, it was my A-string tuner too. I took the tuner apart, inspected it, found nothing obvious, reassembled it and the "buzz" went away. I'm guessing the pieces fell into place a little bit better that time. For all I know, it's components got a little loose from shipping, changes in temperature, etc…?

It sucks that it happened to you too, but at the same time, I'm kinda glad to know mine wasn't a freak occurrence. More so, I'm happy such rare idiosyncrasies can be remedied with a little elbow grease.

Try grabbing the paddles while playing an open arting see if that stops the buzzing.. mine moved just a very small amount but that's what caused the buzzing
