Squier Deluxe Dimension Bass (IV & V string)

I'm sure it's just a trick of photography, but the Dimension almost looks like a short scale next to the P.
There is certainly a large difference in body size. That would definitely help with any potential weight issues.

I used my dimension for an indoor performance tonight. I brought my VM jazz bass as well. Side by side I was shocked that I actually preferred the dimension. My jazz sounds fantastic. So liking the blend with the dimension even better was a surprise.
I'm removing the pickgaurd to send to pickguardian. I'm getting one made in white pearloid. I like the look better. I'll post picks of the new guard.

Over here there's a price difference of some 500 euros ($570) between Squier and Fender Mex. For me that's big peanuts. I found the sound and the preamp of the Squier less convincing when I tried both of them out. Soundwise the Fender has bigger balls and a wider rangeing preamp. That may by the 18v talking. I'll probably save up a while longer...
I have played both, and I like the preamp and neck better on the Squier than on the Mexican five string. The treble settings on the MIM Dimension is way too harsh for my tastes.
I have only been able to find a rosewood neck squier dimension bass so far. Has anybody compared the maple neck and the rosewood neck squier dimension (v)? If so, do they sound notably different?
I've been reading through his thread here for a while and have decided to go ahead and try a Dimesion Bass V for myself. The local music shops around be are horrible and they don't cater to bass players, so I will be buying before trying, but I'm used to that.
I have a Squier a Precision bass V that I LOVE the tone of and it looks great in 3TS and maple board, but it does have one LOW fret on the G struggle side of fret 17 which means I can't play the C there. This is likely not a problem for many of you, but I do actually need that note quite often as it turns out, so I can not use that otherwise great instrument for performance. I intend to have that regretted, but I don't dare take it to my local shops here for that. They don't ever touch my stuff, ever. They are seriously bad music shops.
I am very excited to try the Dimension Bass V to see how it will fit into my current needs. I intend to do a video review one pcs I receive the bass and have some time with it. The sound samples I have seen on YouTube are not very clear and useful, so I will try to do some sample of the bass itself and in the mix.
I chose the Black / Maple scheme as I currently am not rocking a black bass. I'm eager to get it and see how it stacks up to you guys thoughts on it.

I've always liked THIS look. That is partly why I have a white pearloid guard coming for my red+maple Squier Dimension.
Squier basses, in my experience, have been very much hit or miss on quality. That red Dimension with the maple neck that they have now could get me to try them again. Superficial, I know, but it does look nice and your idea for the pickguard....yes....
Just got my Squier Deluxe Dimension Bass V in Black/Maple last night. Haven't been blue to spend much time with it yet, but so far I quite like it. I will be restringing and doing a setup tonight after work or tomorrow am. I am very impressed with the voicing of the preamp and pickup, though it is a little extreme on volume output. I haven't opened it up to see if you can attenuate the max volume, many preamps can be. I will need to add a little tension to the truss rod, but I will wait until I restring to do a full setup. They did not include Allen keys for the truss rod and bridge adjustments though so it's a good thing I have many Allen keys available. The neck feels somewhere between a jazz and precision, I was hoping it would be a little chunkier actually cause I like a good beefy precision neck the best. The spacing feels quite nice though and is comfortable enough for slapping, but most comfy for finger style for me. The tone from this instrument is pretty much a stingray pe of vibe, but a little different. I'm eager to spend some time with it and plan to record some tracks with it to see how it plays in the mix. I know it will sit well as the preamp is EXTREMELY tweak able and I haven't found a bad sound from it yet. There is a ton of control for the kids, which sound to me like they are sitting somewhere around 1k. The bass control is nice and thick without being boxy or too boomy, and treble is not too harsh. Very well done all around.

have been fiddling with the Squire a bit this morning, on my day off, waiting for the postman with a pack of new strings. I have to say that I rarely ever play at all with the strings shipped with an instrument, but these aren't bad really. They are grimy, but they sound pretty good. I wonder if the are Fender String? anyone out there know?
Was testing out the preamp controls today to see what is on tap and I'd say that to is plenty useful. Don't really see a need to upgrade, at least for now.
The mid control seems like it is somewhere very close to 1k, as I thought at first listen, which is a very useful frequency to have access to onboard. The bass seems to be somewhere around 80-100hz, not sure about the table, maybe around 2.5-3k. All very useable frequencies. The treble when cranked isn't really harsh, at least not with these strings. When I get my others installed, Ill re listen and do some more analyzing.
I recorded a VERY short demo of a run through of the controls (audio only) I start Flat and then run through each control Boosted fully, then a bit of a blend.

I think you are finding out what I have been saying; the Squier Dimension is a budget bass that comes without the weaknesses associated with budget basses. It has a good neck, good frets, usable and quiet electronics. It does not need mods.
Yep, no mods required, but it will of course get even getter with a good detailed setup. I have to say though, that my Dimension Bass V would have been perfectly gigable right out of the box. I could have easily tuned it up and played a gig with it. My precision Bass V was a the same, although it does have a low fret. My VM Jazz Bass '77 was no where near this nice out of the box, and actually is still a bit lacking.
