Oh boy. I did it. Bought a crimson red and maple V. Used, but only 4 months old and hardly touched. I still have to wait a couple of weeks before I can hold it in my hands. Hope I am not going to regret it....

Squier Deluxe Dimension Bass (IV & V string)

If I may ask, just out of curiosity:
1. How does your dimension sit in the mix (compared to the jazz bass) ?
2. What kind of sound / EQ settings do you prefer?
3. What is the kind of music you prefer the dimension for?
4. Do the band members have an opinion about your dimension's sound?

1. It sits in the mix great. It has some nice punch and plenty of bottom end.
2. I prefer a nice fat thick sound with plenty of overtones, but NOT bright.
3. I play in a big/dance band. So I need a good solid electric bass sound. I usually go for the Jaco type of sound.
4. My band members know I have 9 basses and usually don't know or care when I swap them out.
So, this deal didn't happen after all. That means I am going to buy me a new one...drool
I just got my Dimension IV yesterday. Very sad... I was shocked to find such poor quality. One of the pickguard screws was not screwed in all the way, two of the pickup screws has approx 1/16 inch from being screwed down to even touch the pickup. Also 3 of the 5 screws on the bridge will not tighten. This sux!
Are you talking about the Fender or the Squier? Why am I suspecting it is a Fender?
I ordered 3 of these site unseen from major retailers. All 3 were constructed really well. My only issue was on my latest one I had some issues with pickup height. It was easily fixed.
If I were you, I'd send it back and get another one. I'd say your next one would likely be good.

I picked her up today! A real beauty. Nice woodgrain, impeccable finish and neck wood. On top of that the setup was spot on. No need to tweak anything. Awesome sound too! I am going to try her out with the band next thursday. See the picture, with behind her my killer Yamaha and cheapo P-bass.
I took her out to play last thursday with the band and that was something of a wow experience. She stands out in the mix real impressively with her throaty, edgy and authoritative sound (EQ flat on bass and amp, a Hughes&Kettner Bassbase 250 2x10 combo). The low C# and D in one of our Muse covers almost cleared the room. Where the Yamaha BB sounds bold, round and sweet, the Dimension growls and barks. I love it (both of them).
Looks like the price for these has gone up on Musician's Friend and Amazon. Glad I got mine when I did.
Over here the price of the V floats steadily around the 400 euro mark; 395, 398, 418.
Remarkable thing: when I pulled it out of the box 10 days ago the intonation was OK, today I checked and all strings where sharp at the 12th and I had to adjust the saddles a fair amount. Something to do with breaking in the strings maybe?
Something else: do you have any idea about the battery lifespan?
