Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V -- Unbelieveable Bass!

I recently swapped out the stick pre for an obp3 with an active/passive switch in place of the silly slap switch. The passive mode bypasses the battery, and the eq leaving only the volume and balance available. When the tone controls are centered I can't tell any difference when switching between active and passive mode. I considered dropping in some area j pups but I actually like the stock pups fine.

Hi, doing my first mod on a Squier Deluxe Jazz Active V (sunburst) and need some help.

Already have:
Sadowsky hc pickups
Sadowsky onboard pre with vtc
Sadowsky black label flatwound strings

I want to replace the original bridge and tuners with black hardware.
Which ones are direct replacements (no drilling, easy to install, etc)?

I was wondering if anyone has changed out the stock deluxe pre for a Bass Mods BEQ12-34PTAP and used the "slap switch" for series/parallel. I saw that they have one with an active/passive mini switch but thought I would ask. Thanks as always.

You're on your way my friend. I did the same and it is a tone monster. I replace my tuners with Hipshot Ultralites HB6 and a Hipshot Vintage bridge. Neither was a direct bolt on, especially the bridge.

You can find them cheaper if you search around. I doubt you'll find direct replacements, but I feel theses additions are worth it. If you can't do it yourself, (the tuners were easy) you can always pay a local tech to install them. I did my own bridge, and I had never done it before. It came out great, but it wasn't that easy, and I was a bit nervous to tell you the truth. Please report back when you get it finished. By the way, I had Chromes on it, but switched to Sadowsky flats. Perfect match!

I don't agree. The 19mm spacing (nut and all) seems pretty much the same as on my Sadowskys. That was the reason I chose it as a cheap spare. Little did I know, with some mods, that bass is an absolute low end machine. It plays and sounds fabulous. I would have zero problem using it as a main player. I don't know the particulars of that ebanol board, but whatever it is, it looks and feels amazing.

I own one of these as well. Not planning any mods, as I'm content to leave well enough alone. I put GHS flats on mine and use it as my "J Bass On Steroids" for those Larry Graham moments. Say what you will about Squier -- they don't always get it right but they hit it out of the park with this one.

I was all set to buy one of these basses at guitar center. I had cash in hand, ready to complete the transaction. All I asked was that the tech on duty give the truss rod a couple of turns to lower the action. He agreed, and started to make the adjustment. What followed was the sickest sounding snap I ever heard. The truss rod broke, and they had no other similar basses in stock.

And that was that.

Hey everyone. Haven't posted in this thread for a while but still loving my ADJV. Tweaked the set up perfectly - great playing action.
I've upgraded the tuners to HS Ultralites with great results on the balance.
The best mod I've done to it though was to convert the bass to passive, just simple volume and tone. Stock pickups - sounds perfect! Even volume and tone across the strings, great single coil tone, plenty of output.
I did intend to put either an Aggie or Bart preamp in it, but to be honest I am a passive boy through and through and the sound from the bass is perfect!

I've considered trading out the pre in mine but then it starts going from a budget beater bass to something totally different. Leaving mine as-is. The furthest I'll go is a active/passive switch.

I'm looking to lighten up my SDJAV as it has got a few pounds on all my other basses. Anyone know the direct drop in part for some ultralight tuning machines and or lighter bridges. I might go all stealth black but I kind of like the chrome look too.
