Squier/Doom Bassquiers 49: Squiers The Beef?

The band before bongripper (crappy technical death metal stuff) had a singer who decided one day that he wasn't going to do vocals or be in the band because he wasn't interested in it anymore. He was moving out of state soon and was leaving the band anyways, but he decided to quit when we still had several shows booked.

He refused to play the shows despite having agreed to do them, so I ended up doing bass and vocals at one, and we got a friend to fill in for the last show. After a couple of months we just turned into bongripper when our drummer broke his double kick pedal at a practice, so we turned all the amps up and just played slow riffs.

Everything has been better since, singers are terrible.

i luckily have never had anybody up and quit like that, its gotta be brutal. but lets be honest, for this style of music (doom or stoner) no one is trying to replace freddie mercury. if your singer bails or you need a fill in, its 100% the easiest guy to replace even if there are some singing parts. a lot of that can be masked live, and like youre saying, if youre loud enough itll all just blend in lol.

funny you mention breaking the double kick then just turning up and playing slow. the osedax was more of a intronaut style band with botch riffs sprinkled in, and i always thought my guitarists style lent our sound to be much slower but we never tried it. i spent two weeks on the road with Mouth of the Architect, and when i got home, i told everybody "ok, we're tuning down, and slowing down" haha. took awhile to get the speed down but were there now.

Speaking of popular radio music, who else is already incredibly sick of this ****ing smurf sing song folk crap? Bands like the Lumineers where you hear their songs on every single commercial on TV are driving me insane.

The wife and I were just talking about that last night. We turn on the X (alternative rock station, used to be metal and cooler) and all I hear is a bunch of hippies playing with banjos and crap. I really hope it's just another fad that plays out it's course. I can only take so much acoustic twiddling with intentionally bad vocals.

She picked up a grammy nominee cd last night, at least 1/3 or more was that hippie dippie crap.

Not sure who that band is Laz. But I can guess how it sounds by the description. I'm tired of the same vocal delivery in all the hipster radio bands. Whiny and annoying. With a wimpy half assed falsetto hook with 2 words or less.

Yeah, our 101x station used to be alternative and metal stuff... Not anymore. Except for Friday nights we get 2-3 hrs of metal. Heavy sh*t.

Found the only pickup made to replace the one on the Warwick. I know I just got it but I knew they were prone to low volume from the get go, and it is in great shape and know the bass is a keeper so going to slap this pup in it. Plus don't want to fiddle with the amp and pedal settings just for swtiching basses around. I went with a neck pup instead of a bridge, figured the location of the pup on the Warwick and not being a big fan of trebly bass tones the neck pup was the better choice. Had a Bart neck pup but in a 6 string Spector years ago and man it gave it old school thump, so hoping this will give me good pup volume and a bit of old school too.

We heard this on our local modern "rock" station yesterday. My wife summed it up pretty good. Big anthemic songs with overly dramatic vocals that aren't really saying anything at all. Their voices are so affected and meaningful sounding but they ain't really saying s___t! Haha. This and the female-fronted synth disco that passes for "modern rock" really makes me feel sad for music.

Man I was wondering if it was widespread or did our local alternative channel just sell out. Yeah the folk **** I don't know, it has already been done as good as it can get in the past with Townes and Nick Drake, new **** is weak. And that band fn Fun, damn I hate that singing for singings sake and the feminine vocals and the over production and the sounds like a musical and I hate musicals, and noisy keyboards did we learn nothing from cheesy keyboards in the 80s just look at what they did to Steve Winwood's stuff in the 80s. He was in Traffic, I love traffic but his solo stuff is elevator music. So please someone smash all their keyboards, and hand them organs or Rhodes pianos and lift these guys off the ground so their balls drop and they sing like real men. I feel like the single tear litter Indian over looking all the litter in the pond
Pop music and keyboards, do we not learn from our past...

My cd player Squired the bed and have been lazy about installing the new one in the cold weather, so been forced to listen to radio channels, and they are horrendous. Even the usual alternative channel now plays all that synthesizery pop singer crap. So one day I just turned on NPR and will be listening to that till Spring I suppose. Bought I am also closing the door from 40 to 41 so that might be part of it.lol

+1k

I did the exact same thing.

This is that Lumineers band. I'm sure if you watch normal TV you've heard this song a million times. So sick of the smurf sing song crap.

I don't have cable. But yes, I know the song... Yeah, this crap is getting old. I can see the appeal. But I hate Dylan and Young. And that's everyones inspiration, or at least they say it is.

+1 on fun. That's the type of vocal thing I'm talking about.

eeeeyyyyyiiiiiiyyyyuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

When my cd player in my car went out a few years ago. I had the mp3 player in my ears. I did 2 days of radio. Kept trying to get my cd player to play, I ended up punching the sh*t out of it and breaking the display. haha
