It seems that those who do either roll off a little of the jazz pickup and blend it with the P cranked up higher than the J. Some are replacing the jazz but personally I blend mine. I have not gigged with it but I would not have a problem if I needed to with it.

Yeah I've been perusing that thread as well, trying to get as much research as I can in before pulling the trigger. I usually crank the P to 10 and have the J around 8, right before the major scoop happens so Ill probably keep it stock for a while if I get it. A little noise doesn't kill me.

Now I have to think of a color. The red is tempting but the blackout is classic...

The neck is already coated in polyurethane. You'd need to sand it off first.

I think you'd need to have a custom one made. AFAIK, no-one stocks them.

This is bad (for my GAS) I may not have to order one after all...a store that's kind of near by stocks them and I'm going on Saturday to check them out. If I buy my girlfriend shoes she can't complain about me buying another bass right? :hiding:

Especially since there is a high chance that the bass will be less expensive than the shoes !!! Go for it, they are worth it !!!

I had the SS side by side with my Lakland DJ4 tonight. Of course, the SS will never beat the Lakland, simply not the same category, however she sounded great !!!

I did notice that the pickups have a major 'hum' and obviously they need to be replaced and the shielding be redone... Not a big job. Any suggestions for replacements ???

I think you can do tru oil over poly if you want to.

wdmusic will do custom pickguards as do jeannies pickguards....pricy though.

IT IS DESTINY. A used black SS Jag has popped up at the shop I was going to go to tomorrow and its listed for $99.99. They have my name and know that Ill be up tomorrow for it. Prepare my number! -maniacal laughter-

Would love to say a natural one and a white one added some day. But I'll be happy if it just Stays on the market at this price - which is very, very unlikely. Fender starts and stops models like this all the time.

Played mine - all day. Literally. I'm cramming a bunch of new songs, and I was behind. Was a very fun day.

Just picked up one of these for my 10 year old today. He was more comfortable with it than the regular 34" scale 9 pounders. Seems to be a decent instrument...the fit and finish look good, pickups are quiet, pots aren't scratchy even though they have the sharp volume increase right at full. The tuners seem a little rough like they have sand in them. I put a little sewing machine oil in them and hopefully they will be smoother.

Also I don't remember which thread had people looking for a gig bag that would fit it, but I found a bag that fits it perfectly. It's a Stagg brand. The receipt printout says Stagg STBLA10UE Universal Electric Guitar Bag. It's black and grey with one outside pocket that zips vertically.

We got home from the store and I asked my son if he wanted to play some bass. He said "Nah. Can I call a friend to go play?" :hmm:

After a day of having the bass and playing the snot out of it I haven't really come to any conclusions that other people havent reached:

- Yes the J pup is kind of weak and a little noisy
- The P pup is defintely solid sounding
- The pots are the first thing that needs to go
- Yes there is neck dive BUT nothing substantial enough to merit a tuning machine change

I'll probably look into a DiMarzio Model J for the bridge and since I'm kind of OCD I'll probably get the model P for the neck just so it looks the same haha. Pots need switched and suprisingly the input is pretty solid, I was expecting it to be shaky as thats what usually craps out first in cheaper instruments.


Overall, definitely worth the money.
