My saddles were close to bottoming out so while I shimmed the neck I looked under the hood. Just as you said it's Pinker.
I assume the wiring and parts are stock ?
Also, the volume pot is stampd B 250k and the tone pot is stamped A 250k. Does B indicate a linear taper ?
The wiring is original. And B is linear taper.
Does the blue underneath look like the sonic blue version of the bass? I know someone suggested the blue might be primer, but to me it looks like the actual paint used on the sonic blue.
I didn't really pay any attention to the blue in the control cavity.
On the chip it looks like the blue is on the wood followed by a coat of black and then the shell pink. It's kind of hard to tell though looking at it in person because someone has apply to some sort of clear coating to the chip to keep it from flaking further.
Interesting. I'm becoming more and more convinced that they were running a pretty sketchy operation in China. I've owned some that had very thin paint jobs (as evidenced by the chips) with no apparent primer or other colors and some that have had multiple colors with very thick layers of paint. Maybe they were originally painted one color and a defect was noticed after finishing. They might have then repainted to attempt to fix the defect. Who knows.

Is anybody playing theirs in a drop tuning? My band plays a half step down on all strings and I occasionally drop my Eb down to Db. My full scale bass has no problem with this, but my Mustang gets kind of farty. I'm thinking of ordering some heavier gauge strings for my Mustang and my Musicmaster, but couldn't find much for medium-scale. What are you guys using?

My Vista MM truss rod is fine but nearing maxed out.
I want to try TI flats, and wondering what to expect with them replacing the D'Addario rounds now on the bass. Not sure what gauge the D'Addario set is.
Will the TI set be higher tension than the rounds ? I have searched and searched and cannot find tension specs for the TI short scale Flats.

Here's the latest photo of my black Vista. Swapped out the knobs for Jazz bass knobs and am still rocking the nylon tapewounds. I'll still try a black pickguard eventually. I'm waiting for some time to make my own instead of buying them since I want to make a bunch for the various colors.
OK, going to order one and try it.

I've read about two-thirds of the thread so far and haven't seen any mention of it.
When I get home I'll see if the stock nut will pop out easily and take a look. Might get lucky.
As an aside, these Vista MusicMasters are the only Fender short scales that seem to have the Precision Bass width at the nut.
Specs on the Zero Glide match up !
