Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

This is going to be a breeze. String spacing and nut width is spot-on with the stuck plastic nut.

Finally got around to installing my Zero Glide on my MusicMaster.

I thought I may have to shim the tuner side of the nut but I didn't have to. Nut and fret fit like it was designed for a Vista MusicMaster.

I did not realize that I had to cut the fret to the proper length. I may have overlooked it but I did not see anything on the website or in the instructions stating so. No big deal as I have the tools.

It came with 4 fret sizes. The .043 " (labeled high in the instructions) is the one that worked. I determined the correct zero fret size by placing a capo on the bridge side of the second fret and making sure there was string clearance at the first fret. Just a tad.

Initial observance : with the stock nut and the intonation set on the MusicMaster, the notes were a tad sharp the first 4 - 5 frets. After installing the Zero Glide and re-doing a setup, the notes no longer fret sharp. My TC PolyTune Clip On did flicker sharp a tiny bit fretting the F on the E string but when I fretted it in unison with the F on the D string, the tuner read dead on. Good enough.

My open E now has more definition and less boom. Open A, D, and G sound super as as well. The bass is strung with TI Jazz Flats.

Took about an hour and 15 minutes due to the fret cutting and filing. Still have to round the top ends of the nut a bit.

While I had her on the bench I spruced her up and named her Red :)

I'm so happy to finally be able to join the club! Paid about $100 more than I had planned but proud of myself for pulling the trigger haha. It's in pristine condition. Like it was never played! I immediately shielded the cavity, threw on some flats, and did a rough setup. Love it!

Here it is next to my beloved shell pink MIJ jazz.

I treated myself to a set of TI short scale flats. I didn't think to add more windings to the A string so it buzzed at the nut until I was able to increase the break angle by holding down the string before tuning up. Oh well. Next time I change the strings I'll remember to leave some extra string length. That might be in 10 years tho haha.

Same strings I put on mine, good choice.

If you look back on the past couple of pages you'll see where I also installed a Zero Glide nut on mine.

Suh-weeet. I'm always curious to find out if the pink bass is actually pink or if it's like mine which is aged to peach.

Oh thank gosh you guys exist! I recently came into a musicmaster vista, but some idiot replaced the stock w/b/w pickguard for some crazy nonsense that doesn't fit correctly, and I need some help. Could any of you help me get a tracing of the original pickguard so I can have one custom made for my new pet project? I love the tone this bass puts out, and I can't have it looking so gad dang silly.

I can get one for ya. I've been meaning to take one of mine apart to shield the cavity anyways. Send me your address (PM) and I'll get it in the mail in the next few days.

Also, I want to see a picture of yours.

So, the previous owners took off the original pickguard and strapped on that garbage, the electronics were all sorts of messed up, so I had to strip those, and I put in a $30 lipstick pickup for the meantime, but will be replacing that with an aero 4-pole pickup like it's meant to have after I've saved up a bit. This thing wasn't in great condition when I got it, but I want to restore it to its former glory.

Nice bass... I actually quite like the look of it as it is. Mine too no longer has the stock Vista pickup, as my original pickup bit the dust. It's not the easiest pickup in the world to replace so the lipstick might not be that bad a choice. And for posting the photo, Congratulations chucklebucket, you are Member No. 57!

Make that 58. Been having some issues with my sea foam green beauty. Found out today that the pick up has gone. I'm so gutted. They are so hard to find. I have never met a bass I liked as much as this one. Vintage, legendary, super pricey basses have passed through my hands, and I have let them go because they couldn't hold a candle to mine.

I'll give you the old TB line: no picture no bass. ;)
