How scary is it that I'm thinking of selling my (most expensive bass I've ever owned up to this point) bass for that Squier?

Well it's a Squier Precision 5 Standard-20th Anniversary Edition-in Shoreline Gold.
Put CTS pots in it- only mod I've done & she sounds GOOD!!!

I've got several nice basses in my collection, but my main player is my Squier Jazz V. Although I've done a lot of mods to it, it was still a great player right out of the box.
List of mods:
New wiring w/ CTS pots
Switchcraft jack
Bone nut
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
Leo Quan Badass V bridge
Chrome knobs w/ abolone tops
Schaller strap locks
Clear acrylic pickguard
Dyed the rosewood fretboard black for that ebony look
Even with all of this, I still only have $460 invested and it plays & sounds better than ANY $1000+ Jazz bass I've come across. Next on the mod list will be painting the body & headstock in a kickass metallic silver. With the Clear Acrylic pickguard and the chrome hardware, I think it'll look incredible on stage.

I'm a new kid who bought the "rock star in a box" a few months ago. It's a red Affinity P-Bass. All I've done so far is swap the strings for some D'Addario 170's. Next time they need changing I think I'm going to try the TI Jazz Flat's. At that time I might change out the bridge and pup's. Thinking about a BAII and some 1/4 pounders. Still trying to figure it all out. Don't know if it's worth messing with the tuners? Is there a good nut to throw on it?

Count me in - Just picked up this '83 Japanese JV Squier. posted pictures in another thread and then saw this Squier thread. It's an early one from the FGG factory - fantasic bass - I'm very pleased with it.....
Just picked up some more goodies for the Squier Affinity...(see page 11 for first updates)..
Just installed new tuning keys.
Here's a before pic w/ the stock cheapos...

BTW did you notice where I cracked the headstock while installing the new keys...yeah, that sucked. Seems fine so far, if it gives me any probs Ill just get another neck off the bay or something, no biggie.

But i finaly finished upgrading my Affinity P bass (and took the time to photograph it). I upgraded it with EMG pickups, slapped a new pickguard, and changed the tuners. It plays great, and sound much better! It would be nice if i could have a number... Gimme gimme gimme!

The Squier Affinity Series have Alder for the Jazz , and Hardwood for the Precision .

1984 MIJ Squier P-Bass. Stock was black w/black pg and rosewood neck. Now w/ white pg, Badass bridge, Bassline 1/4 lb'rs and coming soon a Mighty Mite Maple neck.
2006 MII Squier 70's Modified Jazz Bass. Maple Finish, blk pg, maple neck
2007 MII Squier 70's Modified Jazz Bass Fretless.
I have swapped necks on the last two to create 2 unique Franken-Squiers. I needed the sunburst w/ maple neck for my Judas Priest Tribute. I still have a nice looking Maple w/ ebonite neck fretless as a result. I had to get a pick guard for it which is tort..

Count me in... picked up my new Squier Vintage Modified Jazz (fretted natural model) on Friday... nice. Bit heavy though...

Hey guys. Been a long time since I posted on these forums... probably since I first started bass, a few years ago. But it's nice to be back.
Sorry to resurrect what seems to be a very old thread, but I thought searching > annoying people with a new thread. Just bought myself a Vintage Modified Squier after having my main bass (RockBass Fortress 4 string... very nice, but turned out to not take kindly to falling off of a stage) undergo some lengthy reliability problems.
So if this club is still active, put my name up there! I was truly shocked by the quality and value of the VM series. Felt nicer than several Mex Jazz basses I tried. And those pickups - did Squier make a big whoopsy in the factory and fit all these basses with pickups far beyond their price range standard?! I was jamming with my band the night I got the thing home and we were all shocked at how punchy, tight and clear they are. Considering my guitar-stars are both vastly more experienced than I and both own "JJ" guitars, one uses a Steve Vai signature Ibanez and the other a Gibson Les Paul Slash signature model through Marshall 4x12's... I'd say that's a pretty fine compliment.
A question from me too. The one and only complaint I have is that the VM J is fitted with the notoriously lightweight stock Jazz bridge. Is it -
a) worth the cash to put a BadAss/GOTOH bridge on? (I'm not an experienced modder, so I'm not sure which is better)
b) would it fit?
I've heard that replacement Fender Jazz scratchplates don't fit some Squiers, and wondered if there is a slight difference at the bridge that would mean it's not possible. And being a Warwick/RockBass convert, I'm used to having a very weighty bridge that probably served as a ships anchor in a previous life. I could do with the sustain boost for some of the more ambient/experimental/shoegaze/electronic stuff I'm starting to play with too, which I'm sure the seriously weighty maple body will deliver if only it wasn't impeded by the bridge.
