After playing one at GC on Friday, I'm really GASing for a Vintage Modified Fretless. It much exceeded my expectations!
I must say I'm wary of the "ebonol" fretboard. What exactly is ebonol, and how does it sound/feel?
I'm afraid I can't help you with the SX thing. SX are extremely hard to come by this side of the pond.
I believe Ebonol is a hard plastic type material similar to Rosewood. It seemed pretty wear resistant and was very smooth. It also had a pretty good tone and mwah.
ebonol is used in bowling balls from what I hear......so its pretty tough, its tone is similar to ebony to me, and it looks like ebony, some VMs even have little "grain" veins going down them. pretty cool stuff.
Ebonol is an artificial material similar to ebony (Diospyros crassiflora), a black wood from Africa, which sometimes includes grey streaks. Ebonol is commonly used in place of ebony in the construction of stringed instruments, like fretless bass fingerboards, because it is easy to work with and resistant to forming grooves from roundwound strings.

How scary is it that I'm thinking of selling my (most expensive bass I've ever owned up to this point) bass for that Squier?
They got one on ebay for $299 and free shipping!
