Squier Owners Club

Some beautiful Squier basses and impressive mods shown recently! What a bargain these are.

I have a custom Squier dual-P bass (affinity) taken apart for re-finishing. I bought it in pieces after being custom air-brushed. I routed a cavity for a second P pick-up, up-graded pots etc. I'm using a stacked 500k vol/tone and a blend pot with a micro series/parallel switch. The pick-ups shown are Seymour Duncan SPB-2 in the normal position, SPB-3 in the bridge slot. All these parts were spares I had on hand so it didn't cost me to do the mods until I replaced the orig neck with a maple board Mighty-Mite.

I've been playing and gigging it for 2 years and have grown tired of the custom flame job which was poorly prepared and finished so it will soon be Olympic White, with the flame painted PG. Also a vintage creme DiMarzio Mod P will replace the SPB-2 in the normal position. The body is block sanded and primered now, ready for a coat of Dupli-color GM Olympic white and top coat of Deft lacquer. I re-cleared the PG with a fresh coat of minwax poly and it's looking good. The neck is vintage tinted Deft lacquer which holds up well and feels great.
I'll post more as soon as it's finished!


Update: A few weeks has past since the grey primer stage, and while I thought by now my refin would be finished, it is close.
It's taken longer due to inconsistent weather conditions, and the need to spray outdoors.

I'm giving Watco clear gloss nitro-cellulose lacquer a try over the Dupli-color acrylic lacquer this time. One more clear coat and I'll be ready to polish out the final gloss, that's the plan any way.
Each coat of lacquer has tinted the white ever so slightly, for a warmer color which is just what I hoped it would do. More yellowing is expected as the finish is exposed to the light of day.

Yes, the search engine could use a bit of improving. I typed in Squier Club and it was about 10 lines down on the list.

I recently picked up my Squier VM 70's bass. Plays great and I did not notice that much of a difference when I compared it to a MIA jazz bass at the very least not a $600+
difference. I'm at work so I can't upload a pic of my bass but it is the 4 string model of the one below. Only a few differences - I've replaced the knobs with old school jazz bass knobs and I have ordered a set of Dimarzio Ultra Jazz pickups. I'm hoping to have the pickups installed in a few weeks. Excited to hear the difference real pickups make.

Thanks :) The pickup is custom for the Freeman. Sounds very good to me. Haven´t AB´ed with others, but I recently played a few AM standards in a shop and I´d say its pretty close. Not something I´m planning on upgrading.

Thought I'd show my latest acquisition. It is a 2000 Squier Jazz bass Standard Series. Not sure of the color, but I haven't researched it yet. Got it for $80 out the door at a pawn shop last week. The neck had way too much relief and the truss-rod nut needed replaced. I have a nut coming this week. I clamped up the neck into a slight backbow position and left it in the window of my car for a couple days. It has been into the 80s so the neck has been heated very well. Now when I take the clamp off it is pretty straight. I will level and crown the frets (if needed), adjust the truss-rod and restring it. I have a brand new set of strings ready to go on when it is done that I got free in a deal when I bought my 93 Fender Precision (Squier Series). I think this will make a very nice backup to my Precision when I play out.

Edit: I am researching the color. I believe it is called Sherwood Green Metallic. There is also a British Racing Green, but I believe that is more solid. Mine definitely has a metalflake paint.

I have a MIJ Fender Jazz which I don't play very often due to it's 11.5 lbs. I plan to replace it with a lighter version. Either a Squier or a custom build.

I think my VM J is about 10.5 lbs. It's been quite while, so that may be wrong, I'll have to check it again. It certainly doesn't feel extraordinarily heavy.

10.5 I can deal with. I weighed 2 Fender P's, a 4001 and a T-Bird and all are 9.5 to 10.5, (my Squier P is apart for refin at the moment, but I'd bet it's around 9 lbs.)

I know that wood varies and so does the weight of basses.
Just trying to see what my chances of finding a light weight Jazz are in a Squier.
