This is the threaded saddle bridge that Bmensch is talking about. You can move the strings on the saddles right of left to line up with the pickup..

I can join! I just got a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Precision in Lake Placid Blue. I need to change out the strap locks to Dunlops and I will be good to go. Looks good with the plain white pickguard but I might switch it for a black mother of toilet seat later on. I had a set of Sonor drums with that wrap, so I am very partial to it (but the set got stolen!).

Finally back in again! I picked up this wonderful CV60's Jazz. I had to add some foam under the bridge pickup and the output was wonky so I replaced that with a new Switchcraft. Otherwise: great bass :) Fresh Fender strings, bit of lemon oil and we're good to go!
It makes a great team with my vintage Fender.

This "vintage" nickel plated bridge assy, with threaded saddles is the one I'll be installing on my refinished Squier dual P bass to get a 20mm spacing. Not only do the threaded saddles allow some adjustability vs. the grooved saddles, but the string loading holes in the back plate are spaced 20mm as opposed to 18mm on my stock squier chrome plated bridge. And the nickel plating just looks nicer too.

This one does have the glossy ftb/neck. Did the older one's come w satin neck? I'd like that better. And the pups have no logo so looks like they are the "fender designed" pups. Looks like if the bridge pup was moved about 1/4" the strings would aline at bridge. Doesn't seem to effect tone or volume, seems OK like this.

Either way, I'm really enjoying playing this VMJ-V a lot. My MIA J5/P5 basses have been staying home last few gigs. And I sit around the house playing it a lot; just a fun bass. Guessing that'll wear off in time, we'll see. So far, about 3+ weeks since buying it the bass feels/sounds great. Came setup great right outta the box. I'm even liking the strings a lot. They some sorta Fender strings? I think I read somewhere 8250's or like that? I usually go right to DR nickels or other brand of flats. But these play great. Wonder how the Low Riders(nickels?) would sound? Never tried em before.

I'd like to play a "Duncan designed" pup loaded VMJ to compare. Some here have said, not a huge difference. So I'm pretty happy with this bass and for what it cost me, very pleased playing it. Any other VM's y'all recommend I try, no P's please, I think I'm hooked. peace, e.

A. Yes, the older ones had a satin neck/FB. Mine has it, and it's a 2010 model.
B. The threaded saddles as someone else said, allowed me to re-position the strings so they were centered properly over the pickup poles (Doesn't affect the sound, it just looks better)
An added benefit is that the strings are a mm or two more spread out and are more evenly spaced.

Well, no lingerie kittens at tonites gig. Big biker bar with a lot of older cats (men) and a few biker chicks; meh. I used my G&L Tribute M-2000 w/GKMB800+GBNX2-212T with very loud, blues rock 3pc band. Man that bass has some hot pups and I'm still struggling abit to play a 4 again.

Shoulda taken a 5er as backup but I'm determined to play this bass in this band, it just fits so well. They booked us again, once for next 4 months, so I'll keep using the M-2000 but will try different rigs just to compare. I put Chromes on the M-2000 and it helps get the tones I like.

I may snag a 4 string Squire CV jazz or other but I think the VMJ-V may make an appearance in this band next month with the M-2000. I just enjoy playing the VMJ-V bass a lot and a 5er would come in handy when gitard goes off as he does. At least he's very good and a nice guy too. Named Houston Press' Best Guitarist a couple years ago. We have fun improvising on a lot of older blues tunes. :bassist: Oh and the nutty gawker in background of above pic is club owner, not me. :smug: peace y'all, e.

In regards to Squiers, I believe the "doubled-neck-pickup" sitch was only present in the now-discontinued Squier Standard line. I've heard there was a time when MIM Fender Standards had the same thing going on.

I believe that's true, and it wasn't all that long ago. I myself have an '09 MIM Strat, and it looks to me like all the pickups are the same size, because some of the pole pieces are way out of line with the strings. I would think if they were the right size for each position, then all of the poles would line up with the strings, would they not?
(if you haven't guessed, I've never measured them to be sure)

Here's the latest addition to the family and another (inexpensive this time) attempt to tackle fretless. Bought everything in a sweet deal from another TBer. Metallic Red PJ Affinity body, VM Jazz Fretless neck, and a BA II. Very cool and fun. I was very happy with the way the neck fit in the pocket like a glove and it is balanced very well. Happy Father's Day to me! LOL

Hello, first post.

I just pulled the trigger on a Squier Classic Vibe 60s Precision Bass in Fiesta Red. I won't get it for another week as the seller is traveling and that delay is giving me a bit of buyer's remorse...thinking I should have bought a used MIM(w/upgraded pickups) or MIA P. I figured that this might be the place to be reassured.

I own a 2008 MIM Fender Jazz Bass (FSR Natural Finish) w/ Fender Custom Shop 60s Pickups. I love that bass, but I have always wanted a bit more of that warmer mellower R&B P-Bass sound.

How does the CV 60s P stack up?
